RBK/Jofa shins

Recommended Posts

Are the JDP caps and ASD shells identical between the higher and lower end pads? I'm under the impression that those parts are standard on all models and that the add-ons that distinguish between the different tiers are due to comfort enhancements (knee donuts, wicking material, "Fit Lite" suspension, ventilation) and peripheral protection (calf wraps, the "lateral shin wing" insert in that tab by the knee to protect your ligaments from slashes).

I just recently upgraded my shins from a lower end Jofa to a pair of RBK 8k's. The biggest difference I've seen is that the higher end has a bit more padding under the shell and the calf protecter is a little longer. The straps are a little longer, but I took mine off because they didn't fit right with them on, as my legs are too thick.

I'm of the opinion that you should first get what fits right and then get as much protection as you can afford. The reason that I upgraded my shins is that I fell to my knees one time too much and cracted the knee cover on my old pads, had they not broken I would still be in them. I have taken a slapper in the shin and barely felt it, sadly I did one time take one on the calf just a fraction of an inch from the padding and got a nice bruise to remind me to always face the puck.
