Hockey stick balance point

Recommended Posts

I have several sticks of the same length and curve, but of different construction (all wood, composite shaft/wood blade, composite shaft/composite blade, OPS) and have mixed feelings about them. I like the all wood sticks for stick handling and the OPS for shooting. The composite shaft/wood blade combination I like the least because it felt really odd. I measured the balance point for each of the sticks and found that the highest was on the all wood sticks, with the composite shaft/blade and OPS being about 2 inches lower, and the composite shaft/wood blade combination being another 2 inches lower than that. Has anybody attempted to put weight on the ends of their sticks specifically to make the balance points consistent across different sticks (assuming same length and blade shape)?

Did you do it to generically make the whole thing less blade heavy, or did you choose the amount of shaft to cut and butt end to add to exactly match another stick that you liked as a reference point?

I just roughed it to a point where I thought it felt comfortable. I had a 4" and a 6" lying around, so I went with the 4, it felt good and I kept it.
