Taping shinpads

I have always worn my shinpads over my tongue and put tape around it. Would I be faster or improve my stride by not taping the bottom of my shinpads over my tongue? I am using my new XXX's 2morrow and I know that forward flex and 'being on your toes' is a selling feature of the skate as well as the lightspeed's.

Thoughts? Experiences?
