Where to cut inside legs on Tackla pants?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to give my pants a little more mobility by cutting the inside of the legs a little (maybe 4-5"). I'm wondering where to cut though. I've included a picture below. Should I cut on line 1 or 2? Line 1 is more centered on the pant but it's on that stretch material and I don't know if it's OK to cut that. Line 2 would be safer but it's more on the rear side of the inside of the leg. The green area is a pad behind the streatch material so I can't cut there.

Also, if I cut, should I get anything reinforced so it doesn't stretch and tear? On my last pair of Bauer pants they had some sort of rubber material on the inside of the leg and over time it tore further then my original cut. I'd have a shoe shop put on some zipers but I've heard those can get cought up on your socks so I'd like to avoid that.

Well, if to don't want to get some other less restrictive pants, i guess just cut where you would like to have the mobility. I would have had the pants exchanged though...

I use a JOFA girdle with a shell that has zippered legs and they never get cought up with my socks at all...

Good luck!

id cut on line 2... if you cut on line 1, it will just fray and the cut part will just continue.. thats if you want to cut it.. what i did was just take out the stitches..

Adding zippers would probably work best. I have worn pants with zippers for a few seasons now and they do not get caught on my socks. The problem with pants that have factory installed zippers is the velcro at the bottom of the pant leg. The velcro sometimes gets stuck to your sock. Adding zippers would reinforce the area where you make the cut, and will prevent stretching/tearing.

agreed.. sometimes I skate w/ the legs unzipped and that stupid velcro tab gets stuck to my sock.. I was going to cut it off, but when I have the zippers zipped, I use the velcro tab to hold up the zipper from flapping about.

Quick fix - tape!

Don't cut your pants, it doesn't add a lick of "mobility". I have Tackla 9000s and I am no faster if the pants are zipped or unzipped. If you do decide to modify them, have a tailor or shoe shop put in zippers.

I found that zipping or unzipping my pants mostly gave me some air flow up my legs. I had CCM 4 or 652's with the zipper. I unzipped them and taped up the velcrow so it wouldnt get stuck to my sock. Now I didnt notice to much difference skating, but then again the zippers only like three inches long. Those crazy kids that have the cut so far up their pants that you can see there socks end and the bottom of their banana through the side of their pants probobly gain some mobility. My solution was buy new pants, and I went with those RBK pants and I just make the thigh pads relativly tight cause I either wanted them so tight that they didnt bounce around on my leg or so loose that they never touched my legs. I think it might be all in my head. :)

I agree with the guy that said they don't add any mobility.. well i don't know for sure becasue I don't have TAckla pants, I have ccm 652's, the only reason I have them unzipped is because I didn't zip them back up after putting them on over my skates, or I'm hot on the bench and want some air conditioning.. but I can't say that having them unzipped gives an edge at all, unless you somehow skate better with your crotch a little cooler.
