Looseness at the skates

Recommended Posts

Ok so the majority of goalies are figuring out that leaving the tie toes loose helps in alot of areas. Im seeing ALOT of goalies now (especially with the RBK pads) leaving the strap that goes through the back of the skate loose to. Just wondering what everyones thoughts on this is. I have tried doing one tight and one loose and each pad and I can say the looser one does feel a bit better in the joints, but the pads move alot. Just wondering how loose you guys leave em, or if you do at all

I pretty much leave my entire pad very loose. At the toe tie, I tied a knot an inch away from the edge, but still tie it tight. That way there is some room for movement. The back strap on the skate I keep loose also. All of the straps on my pads are loose, except for at the knee cradle and also the strap across the top part of my calf. They are still loose, but just enough to pretty much hold the pad. I use to have all of my straps tight, but ever since I tried having them loose, I think it is so much better. The room for movement feels better. But thats just my opinion and I also guess it depends on what type of goalie style you play.

I keep all my straps very loose except for the one that goes under skate, i snug that one up. Also did add a couple knots to the toe bridge for some allowed movement like DUNKIN explained. I tried to go loose all the way down a couple times but did have a problem controlling the pad movement. I figured out that IMO I needed most of the movement up towards the knee for the pad to sit right when in a butterfly.

i keep every one of my straps loose but my thighboards their the only ones i have a little bit tighter. i tie the toe string real tight, but i have a few knots in it so it doesnt affect the movement to much.

Thats what I have been doing for the most part, both bottom skate anchors very loose. I recently just took the bottom strap off but that was a little to MUCH movement lol now I keep it buckled at a 2 or 3, not doing on entirely makes the pad turn to much if you try to make a stand up save.

I keep every strap loose except the one directly under the knee. The one under the skate is real loose like 1-2" play. Not necessary to keep it tight. With only one strap tight, it keeps the pads close to the legs, but also lets them rotate freely. I test strap efficiency by grabbing the pads with my hands when in the locker room. I rotatel them around my leg. If any strap has friction, I loosen it. Except the one under the knee, it can stay tight becaue it does not limit movement. Once you go to two tght straps, movement is interfered with.
