Mats Sundin

Thornton has Cheechoo (very underrated in my opinion). Jagr has Nylander and Straka, as well as Lundqvist to back him up. Who does Mats have?

Good point.

Most people will think I'm just being a homer (which I'm sure is part of it), but Jesus, is he ever on a tear. If the Leafs end up in the playoffs somehow, I honestly think Sundin needs to be mentioned for the Hart.

They've got points in 8 straight, including 6 wins I think. Its not just that he is scoring, he is playing good at both ends of the rink and has won something absurd like 75% of his faceoffs.

Rucinsky has 55 in 50 games, thats as close to 60+ as you're going to get. Also, Allison is gone for the year so he doesn't count at the moment.

Because this thread is about Sundin being the best. From what I've seen from Staal this year (only games against the Leafs) I can't believe he is top 5 in points.

None taken. Staal hasn't been bad in any games I've seen by any stretch. I just don't understand how he top 5 in points. From what I've seen (which may be limited), he did not seem in the same class as Jagr, Thornton, Cheechoo, etc. Sundin did not have a good first half of the year. I think that a combination of being hurt for a while and being timid slowed him down majorly. The Olympics gave him the boost that he is now feeding off of.

Every shift Mats is creating something. I'm against popular opinion and think both Poni, but moreso Antropov, have been great in the last 5-10 games.

Mats now has a 10 game point streak, where he was collected 11 goals, 9 assists. It took him a while to come back from his eye injury, but he's been incredible since the olympics.

Put it this way, since the All-star break Sundin has scored as many goals as Cheechoo, and outscored Thornton and Jagr in points over the last 10 games. Currently, as in the last week or two, Mats is on thier level.

Ooh, didn't see that. Yeah, as much as I love the guy I can't see him getting one of those anywhere, let alone TO.

Off-topic but where the hell has McCabe been in this run? Haven't heard a thing about him.

McCabe hasn't been the same since he got hurt. He went from being on track for 100 points to not even the second best D on most nights.

About Sundin as MVP- I'm half serious. Does he have MVP numbers? No. But then again, why are people talking about Jagr and especially Thornton for MVP? Because they're the reason their respective teams are making the playoffs. If the Leafs make the playoffs, it'll be a greater accomplishment based on the pure numbers than the Sharks or the Rangers, and I don't doubt anyone will say Sundin isn't the main reason why they are there.

McCabe's been brutal, he was a large reason last nights game was even close. Well him and the Belak/Berg pairing which for some reason get ice-time in the last 5 minutes and Ot.
