Why would they keep Nabokov as a multimillion dollar back-up? They'll have to decide which direction they'll go. They may keep both, but I can't see it happening. Nabby would waive his no-trade if they told him he won't be starting.

SJ also has Nolan Schaefer in the "A". He's gonna be ready soon. He's a good goalie but not ready to be a #1...I think Nabby leaves (via trade in the off season), and after Kipper...I doubt they send another goalie to someone in the West...Nabby comes East.

To who in the East? Tampa is the only team that really needs a number one goalie.

If Toronto buys out Belfour (which is expected), and aren't ready to put the entire #1 load on Aubin or Tellqvist...I think Toronto makes sence.

You mentioned Tampa.

Hasek is unlikely to play next year. I'd assume with his injury problems of late, he'll hang em up for good. If Emory crashes and burns during playoffs...they will (again) be a great team without a goalie, so they might be an option.

Toronto doesn't have much to trade, and if they do make a trade it will hurt their depth up front. Ottawa might make more sense but it would depend on what SJ wants in return.

This is just a guess but...

Biron - Edmonton

Nabokov - Tampa

Raycroft - Phoenix

Hmmm...trades that hurt Toronto's future...how would that be any different than most offseasons?

Don't want to start a flame war...just sayin'

As I've said before JFJ didn't do that bad of a job putting together talent that could qualify for the playoffs. Sure they had too many centers and a couple guys with injury problems, but their coaching cost them games.

For the record Domi is the only player who was not a center for the majority of their junior career.

Tampa, Carolina, Toronto, Ottawa will definately need goalies. Montreal may need one (not sure on where Aebescher is in contractual terms) and Philly may as well, depending on how Nitti does. Alot will depend on the playoff results this season. A ton of unproven goalies in the playoffs. I can't see Nabby getting a huge return with a good crop of UFA goalies available.

As for the Toronto trading abilities. They have White, Cola, Harrison, Bell, Kronwall, Woz who are all capable of playing in the NHL next season. I believe all of them, with the exception of white, will have to go through waivers due to age between the AHL and NHL. This'll lead to them getting nabbed (like Hainsey), and cause some problems. They also have a chunk of energy forwards in the AHL which could be ready. Ondrus, Murphy, Pohl and Williams. Not all of them will be able to make the jump. These are by no means blue chip prospects, but most are servicable players (Murphy is the only question mark). Nabakov will be unloaded for a reason and with Huet, Biron, Cloutier, Legace, CuJo, Raycroft, Gerber all likely available, the teams who need goaltending either by UFA or trade.

Clarke isn't going to spend on a real goalie.
