How big should a pant shell be?

Ok, so when playing goal for field hockey (it's common for men to do it here in the UK so don't laugh!), I found a girdle in the bag and decided to try it on. Thought it was the most comfortable thing I've worn! Now, gonna buy a Mission girdle and need a pant shell so really... er.. should I go the same size or go one size larger?

Sorry, noob question but the nearest LHS is miles away and they're hardly ever open.
