Can someone explain the difference in curves

As a relative new hockey player, I'm very uninformed about the difference in stick curves. I went to the local hockey store yesterday, looking to pickup a Sherwood 5030 Coffey, but was advised by the clerk to go with the Spezza. Can someone explain to me what the terminology means, and what the advantages to each are. Thanks.

Epuck does a great job in explaining the differences but everyone ends up with their own preferences.

take others recommendations as only suggestions. Whats good for you is bad for me and ok for someone else .... try them for yourself... borrow a friends in warm ups, drop ins etc... You can get a feel for what type of curve you like...its tough sometimes in a LHS.... but not everywhere lets you demo something...
