Bauer 8000 Skates

Recommended Posts

Does anybody here know what happened to this skate? It appears it just disappeared off the shelves one day. There was no huge clearance sale from teh large retailers or anything.

I picked up a pair on ebay in February. They came to about $130 including shipping. The place selling them had a few pairs in "normal" sizes, but they went fast. These are the only skates I've ever had that didn't kill my feet without being baked. The only problem is the guy who sharpens my skates doesn't like them because they have the first generation lightspeeds with the stupid little grooves in the plastic above the steel, which makes it irritating to run a stone across them.

Anyways, keep an eye on ebay for them.

Yeah I hated those grooves. I always broke my stones or cut my finger when honing them.

I had heard that Steve Latin, the eq mgr of the Penguins cut himself so bad that he told Bauer that he would send back every skate that had that holder. The new holders showed up 4 months later.

I just got a pair. Been on them about 5 times now. They are stiff, but not as stiff as some other skates I've seen/felt IMHO.

Mine don't have the whitish stitching on the side though. They are all black. My bro had a pair when they first came out and the sides had the lighter material.

Did they change them to all black later on the product's life?

If I may chip in here on the 1st Lightspeeds. The R&D challenge was to make a holder that was better than Tuuk Custom+.... make it more friendly user for all users.

The the scallops/grouves at the top of thr steel were not desinged for "pure looks"

The concept and prototype was presented to several retailers in the Montreal region expaining our direction + the potential issue if care was not taken when stoning the runner after sharpening beause of the grouves. . No issue.... More user friendly..on board...go ahead was consistant with all.

Our direction was also presented to several NHL trainers that also had the opotunity sharpen and stone the runner with a prototype. No issue with them as well.

The answer by both groups were consistant. If this is an improvment in p easier maintainace (i.e front nur) and improve performance compared to Tuuk Custom+ ..go for it.

We did not have any issues or negative comments with our disign direction based testing and pro/retail feedback.

Unfortuntely we do not have the ability to get to every retailer, see every trainer, we do our best to get the most feedback possible.
