Is it worth it to switch to a tapered shaft?

Recommended Posts

I currently use a TPS Red Lite shaft in whip flex with wooden Easton Modano Blade. If I go to a tapered shaft and use a wood tapered blade, would I be defeating the purpose of the switch? In other words, is the blade responsible for the increased performance?

I would guess I would lose a little performance by using a wood blade, but I just love the feel. I am also considering the Mission Pulse, but they don't have a flex that replicates TPS whip. (either 85 or 65, no 75)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

IMO wood blades shoot just as well as comp blades. I clocked my shot with a synthesis/wood blade combo and the top shot on that was stronger than my Tri-core 3 with Zcarbon combo. The point of the tapered shaft is for a quicker release, and the only reason I use comp blades instead of wood is because they last longer and they are more consistant.

Go for it ! it does not hurt too try, but keep in mind tapered wood blades can be hard to find (patterens ) and cost more.

Luckily, TPS makes an R2 wood tapered blade and their Tka"chunk" pattern is supposed to be just like a Modano/Forsberg.

Anybody see any specials on Response XN10 shafts??

Thanks, that's exactly the type of feedback I'm looking for.

The R2xn10 and R2 should be marked down because of the new R2 armor shafts.

Since you mentioed the pulse. It has a great feel accepting the puck. The 85 flex is stiffer than an Easton 85 flex IMO.

That's what I figured, but on either hockey giant or hockey monkey, the response XN10 is more than the new Response Armor that took it's place!

Perhaps the intermediate Pulse rated at 65flex won't be so bad then. I'm hoping my LHS has them in stock so I can check them out.
