Protective skates

Recommended Posts

i wish they still made z-air comp se's those were great... mine are hard as a rock, no pain there. the tongues also have high density foam sewn on top of the felt so no pain there either.

Lets face it.. pretty much any high-end skate is going to give you ample protection.

From experience, the Mission S500, which i guess is considered a high-end skate, doesn't give much in the way of protection. Taken shots off the side, ankle, tongue, and they've all hurt like hell, bruised considerably, i guess as to be expected. But even facing the shot and taking off the toe, the last one like that cracked my big toenail (though it didn't bruise)!

I like the skates and the fit is great, but I'm considering something more protective (Feul110 AG?... Kor), just to avoid getting nailed there.

I was thinking about going with S500's but because I play defence and take shots a LOT, I bough a pair of Kors instead.

Also, don't wait for the Shift2's ... Kor is making 2 different lines/models here. So you're not going to gain anything by waiting to buy a pair, except maybe a couple trips to the hospital. Just wondering, has anyone had their foot broken/had to go to the hospital because of a shot to the foot? I had mine turn black once, and everyone said to go to the hospital but I just hobbled around for a month or so.

My toe is black right now. I will see if the swelling goes down in the next couple days before I go to the ER, but it also helps that I work in the ER, so it isn't much of a trip.

FWIW, I skate on graf 703 and love them but....you feel every shot, a lot.....but....I never have bruises or have never broken a bone. I play in a full slap adult league.

recap...lots o' pain with every shot off the foot, but seems protective enough to prevent serious damage...

good luck

I have a pair of quest 1's and I took one off the side near the bone and it bruised me up pretty good, it didn't break so does that mean its good protection? I don't know.

Vector 6.0's. You'll feel every shot, toecap sidewall, etc...Had them 2 years, they're really softening up so it's getting worse.

If holding out tho...wait for the Kor Shift 2's, I think the impovements are going to be huge compared to the shift 1

the Kor Shift 2 is not a replacement to the Shift 1. it is a different fitting skate from what i have read. Kor will still be making Shift 1.

Oops, didn't mean to make it sound like they where discontinuing the Shift 1, But the shift 2 skate is like a more traditional skate, having a higher cut than the shift 1, also we were told by our rep the other day, that the shift 2 should be hitting the market with a footbed and rivets, as oppose to the system the shift 1 has now.

Which I think would be a huge improvement from the sewn in liner they have now, and gets rid of those screws, making the holders easier to replace.
