Blade for Bauer XXX

Recommended Posts

In full disclosure I have to admit that I'm just a hockey mom, but I've found this board really fun and informative and wonder if anyone has advice on the best blade to use to fix a broken Bauer xxx.

My son generally has cheap gear, but got this as a gift and loved it until the blade split down the middle. I read about where to cut the shaft and how to put in a new blade, but anyone have an idea on what type of blade to replace it with to have similar weight and feel?

Its a 77 flex pm9 Hossa.

thanks

Well there's one thing we all here need to know first. Is your son knowledgable with equipment? If so, ask him if he wants the shaft to become a tapered shaft or standard shaft. Depending upon where you cut it, will tell you whether you need a standard or tapered blade. After that, let your son look at different kinds of blades, have him decide between a wood, hybrid, or composite blade. Then go from there. Hope this helps.

He's not knowledgable at all. He'd probably be on here instead of me if he were.

He just liked the way this stick felt and was really successful with it, strong wrist and slap shots. The stick doesn't look tapered so I don't think he'd want a new blade to be tapered. We stuck a wooden Easton blade on it (at the butt end) and it seemed way too heavy, so I wondered if there's a certain blade/brand/material that would feel like the old, with a similar curve.

I suppose we should cut the old blade off and just take it to a shop and feel different blades? But that seems odd.

Youd be better off getting him the same stick again. Putting in a blade is not going to make it the same as before. And it is tapered, to put a tapered blade in, you have to cut off the original blade and put it in that end. A tapered blade will only fit there and a standard will only fit in the butt-end.

Well his new stick was a XX max stickum (whatever that means) and its OK. I'm just trying to find something to do rather than just throw the whole xxx thing out. I guess I'll look for something tapered and lightweight in the same curve and see what I can do.

Thanks for the help.

I would try a Bauer XV blade. It is tapered, and people say it has a very good feel.

Thanks. I was hoping for simple advise since I'm kind of simple when it comes to hockey stuff. And it should be easy to find the same curve since that's a Bauer. And for the advice to come from a Cheesehead makes it even better. :)
