Pay close attention to the guys like Witt, Kuba and Halpern towards the bottom of the list. Aside from Edmonton and Nieds to Anaheim, most of the success in the playoffs was due to smaller additons like Stillman, Numminen and Lydman.

As opposed to adding Pronger or Forsberg, definately. Stillman had one surprisingly great year after, what we know now, consistent improvement for years. How much talk was there of the signing when it happened?

I wouldn't mind seeing the B's put Halpern on their third line.

Or Chara or Redden on the blue line and dump Gill.

Of course, swapping out Gill for Chara would be great.

Stillman had 80 points in TB and 76 in Car. In TB, he didn't lead the team in scoring, he was 16 points behind St. Louis. He was tied for second on the team in points with Car, 24 behind the leader. He has shown that he is a very good complimentary player, but hasn't shown in recent years that he can lead the team offensively. I've always thought of him as someone who feeds really well off of others, St. Louis, Richards and Vinnie in TB, and Staal, Williams, and Brind'Amour in Car.

you consider the addition of Stillman small? he's been a consistent contributor in the league for the past two years

i would say it was small. the only reason he was in Carolina was because as he himself said, they were they only team that wanted him.

I also don't see the caps letting Halpern go. He is the local boy and a huge fan favorite. With not too many NHL players from the DC area and with as bad as the caps have been, they would be crazy to not resign him
