Goodbye Domi...

It appears Tie Domi's days as a Toronto Maple Leaf are over.

Sources tell TSN the team has initiated the buyout process which starts with the 36-year-old forward being placed on waivers at Noon et on Friday.

Assuming he isn't claimed by any other team on waivers, the Maple Leafs are then eligible to buy out Domi on the remaining year of his $1.25 million a year contract. And that is their intention.

Domi will receive two-thirds of that figure ($825,000) paid out over the next two years but his full salary of $1.25 million will be counted against Toronto's salary cap for next season.

There is a possibilty this could mean the end of Domi's 17-year NHL career as he has publicly stated in the past he would retire rather than play anywhere but Toronto.

Considering the cap hit, it really doesn't make a lot of sense.

I was thinking the same. THey save only like $400,000, but his whole salary affects the cap. Might as well leave him on the roster for another year, even if he only plays two or three games.

Even if you get a guy playing for the league minimum, you're 50k down on the deal. Unless he's a cancer in the locker room, it's not an obvious move.

He is a cancer in the room. He apperantly played both sides of the fence this season being good friends with Tannenbaum and also spreading the shit he was saying to the players.

Dont think he was a cancer in the room -- but valid point about being friends with tannenbaum. Think Ferguson wants any people from the old Quin era -- those with any power gone.

It's pretty well spread that he was playing both sides of Tannenbaum. Then he was supposed to be a large part of the Corson group, which only has Tucker remaining now, and he's rumoured to be on the block in 90% of the possibly Leaf deals.

In the old NHL, Domi was getting close to useless, last season just proved that he couldn't be useful anymore. He has heart but you need skills to go along with heart.

About keeping him and playing him only 2-3 games, as a player I'd rather be cut loose, I would hope he'd have more dignity than to stick around for ice time scraps

All in all, the leafs are better off without him
