Goodbye Dan Cloutier!

Recommended Posts

Vancouver gets a 2007 2nd round draft pick and a conditional 2008 (or 2009 i forget) draft pick. Obviously a salary dump by the Canucks, nevertheless it'll be interesting to see how Dan performs in LA. I'm guessing LaBarbera is the oddman out and they're going to ride Caron/Cloutier which is actually not that bad of a tandem if Cloutier can stay healthy (think Rhodes/Tugnutt for the Sens a few years ago).

That was a brutal trade. I dont care what ppl hv to say about Cloutier being injury prone or unable to do the job in the playoffs the guy led the Canucks to the playoffs each year he played in Vancouver, hes recorded i think 3 or 4 30 win seasons in Vancouver, a proven starter and he is definitely worth more than a 2nd rd pick and a conditional pick

My grandmother could have posted 30+ win seasons with the goal support the Canucks were providing for Cloutier game in and game out!

And even if you don't care that he couldn't stop a beach ball in the playoffs and he's coming off yet another knee injury, I'm thinking the other 29 GMs in NHL probably do.

The Canucks might have gotten more if they held on to him until a time during the season when some teams end up desperate for goaltending. But there's no way Nonis was going to start the season with almost $9 million in goaltending, only 9 skaters under contract and $10 million left to fill out the rest of the roster.

At least Dan gets to play in LA where Crow can continue to make excuses for him in the post game press conferences: "I think Dan really battled tonight..."

Yeah, old Clouts sure battled alright... after the juicy rebounds he'd kick into the slot, trying to find the puck when the opposition took it behind his net, anytime he tried to handle the puck...
