Hockey in Taipei, Taiwan

Recommended Posts

I am going to be moving back to Taiwan within a year or so, just wondering if anyone knows if there are any ice rinks or roller hockey rinks in Taipei, Taiwan?

I know that roller hockey is picking up there, just wondering if anyone can give me reviews on any of the rinks there (both ice and roller), if anyone has ever been there.

Thanks in advance.

Can't help directly, but I occasionally play with a guy who travels for work to Taiwan (IIRC) and plays hockey somewhere there. I'll ask him if its Taipai he travels to. If you like I'll see if I can get his email or something.

It may not be quick, I only see him at a drop-in. Could be tomorrow, could be next month.

a couple of members on here are based out of taiwan. I was there earlier this year, didn't see any games, but they have some pretty organized league there(sweet jerseys i might add). They have a rink in one of their convention centres called the giant egg....its shaped like an egg.

here's a link: http://www.taipeihockey.com/

pm "monoclub", he owns a pro shop in Taiwan

Can't help you directly but, i've met some guys from taiwan through a tournament held in Hong Kong, they join it regularly, they're mostly xpats from canada who work as teachers (if im not mistaken) in taipei.

Last i heard which was 2 coupl'a years ago, they play in a rink which isn't covered so when it rains it floods the rink. i'm not sure if thats changed though.

I'll try to dig up their contacts

Good Luck

Went to taipei last year to play in a tournament at the "little egg". Really nice rink! Saw a few of the expats play a few games.. The local kids are pretty good players..quite fast! I think Taiwan has the #1 inline team in Asia. Not sure about inline rinks though.

There's supposed to be the IIHF Development Clinic happening in 2 weeks time there.

Each time I go to Shenzhen, I hock everybody that will sit still (and maybe understand me) about getting roller hockey started in China.

The company that manufactures my frames actually had a guy come in and meet with me about it, I gave him as many links like courts and walls and equipment companies as I could,

Also gave him the Mission/Tour start em small and grow em good concept. I think there's around 30 zillion athletic types in China, so there's probably a few that could play roller hockey. They certainly get competitive FAST.

Whenever I'm there I put on my hockey skates and tool around my hotel. Definitely draws some attention. My latest hotel was by a river so I could skate along this beautiful walkway over a bridge and back on the othe side. Lotsa fun.

Skating on the streets there is like trying to get to the goal through a bunch of excellent defensmen

I also like to skate through my factory, but it stops the work going on. I used to have a small pair there and guys that wanted could try em. First time skaters were often doing tight fig 8s in a few minutes. The skates got snatched, so somebody's out there skating.

what kind of factory do you own, if you don't mind sharing, and how often are you there? I've been to ShenZhen a couple of times myself on business trips, and think it'd be sweet if they'd start hockey there

Ask for Peter Liao. Tell him you heard about him from Roach from Manila. We used to be team-mates here. Last time we e-mailed each other he is some sort of organizer for games in Taiwan. PM me if you're interested in getting his e-mail address.

It's interesting that people talk about this. I've been thinking about hockey in Taiwan for a long time now, since I was 10 in 5th grade. I'm not much older now (15 year old in 10th grade) but if there is hockey and we get something organized, I can possibly ship my gear over there and play a few pick-up games with you guys.

As you might imagine, I am of Taiwanese descent, and my parents are both Taiwanese. All of my relatives are back there, and I visit every summer.

Again, if anybody is interested, I am interested also! Email me:

charles.lu.9@gmail.com

Another heads up; maybe a forum for Taiwanese players names and contacts? Just thought it would be something fun to do.

I am sorry to have missed this thread. I come on every few months to ask a few questions about the North American Market.

I have the only Pro Shop in Taiwan www.monoclub.com.tw - (in the middle up upgrading) and started the only organized mens league here in 2004 www.cihl.com.tw

Inline is better organized and has been developing for 10 years here now. Anyone interested in coming out to play drop me a line to my email: monoclub@yahoo.com

Cheers,

Geoff

p.s. StealthATL, sorry you didn't hook up with us for the World Jnrs in Germany, was a great trip.
