Sabres walk from Dumont

Recommended Posts

ehh im not to worried. If you had to choose a guy to go, he's one of the players that is most easily replaceable. Not to mention he apparently didn't want to be here to much as he said he'd rather take his one year deal and get his big payday as an UFA then work out a long term deal with the sabres. He'll prolly get screwed now though and not get as much as he would have at the start of UFA. I see him as a rent-a-player for a solid team trying to make a run at the cup this year and then looking for his big payday next summer. Maybe the canadians pick him up?

I don't know who will pick him up for the $3 mil he got, especially this late in the off season. Had it been mid-July, maybe a team would have gotten him, but what team is there now that has room to pay $3 mil for a winger who isn't a clear cut first liner?

Leafs? Chicago?

Does Buffalo still retain the right to match up to 75% of the contract like they would before the lockout?

He would be a great addition to the Leafs, but I don't think they have the salary space right now. Carter's original asking price was $3 mil, and even when factoring in the hometown discount its still too expensive. I don't see Dumont being any different. The best info (not TSN's) shows that the Leafs are at $39.9 mil on roster players with one way deals. They will need 4 players (2 forwards, 2 D) to play who are on 2 way deals, so that is roughly another $2 mil, leaving them right around $42 mil. The only way that signing a free agent could happen is if Tellqvist or Aubin is dumped or traded for a prospect/pick, and another roster player is traded without another roster player and his salary coming back. There is a rumor that Detroit wants to trade a 3rd rounder for Antropov. Of course I don't believe it, but it would take something like that for signing Dumont to even be feasible.

I don't know why you guys wanna dumb Aubin with the end of season he had last year.

Aubin's not a rookie, he's been around the league and failed a few times. It'd likely be Telly on the way out though.

TSN's numbers are not accurate. I'll try and get the "true" numbers once I wake up (I'm on nights). Stajan should sign soon. Westrum, Pohl and Suglobov are all on 1-way deas this season. Toronto is apperantly offering Carter between 1.5-2 mill, Detroit rumours have been around Antro for a while. They apperantly liked him back when he was drafted as well.

I don't think many of the stanley cup contenders have much cap room left, or at least enough that they would pick him up and get closer to the cap. Kind of sucks for him since Buffalo will be a great team this year.

Best numbers I've found. The guys are pretty meticulous.
