Miserable

Issue With One90s

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what type of turn around time Bauer has on returns? The guy at the shop wasn't sure. He said they could just send out a new pair right away or try to fix these. I have a tournament in October and I would like to have them back by then.

they will be back by october

there stick return was about a month for me

at the price they sell that stuff now, we should get what the pros get, I mean 800CAD for skates and it's not the pro version, sure why don't you just shove a br^% up my %$^$#%

For me at these prices, it should include a custom fitting, if you want to just chose a size and go, it should be like 25% less IMO... Hockey gear is killing the sport with these prices

Soccer will take over because to wear what Zidane wears, I just buy his shoes and his Jersey for like 200$...

miserable you said it perfectly the worst part of warranty replacements is you have to wait.  to me it is absord.  in many cases when there is a warranty defect you are given something else in the mean time.  What if you had no other skates.  plus i thought these skates had been tested by the pros.  i know that nbh makes different prostock stuff but i thought the outsole would be one piece that did not change.  did no equipment managers complain...and if they did why not fix it.  i love using bauer products, when not breaking i feel they make many of the best pieces.  If something simple like an outsole coming off the boot it seems like they were set on the release date of the skate.  and mis mounted ls2 powers.  there was prolems with mismounted ls1's on the xx's.  you would think that would've been one area of the manufacturing process they would have extensively tested after their failure in the original relase of the ls1

Yeah, waiting stinks. Hopefully it won't be a long wait. I finally got used to these skates and now I have to go back to my old ones and get used to them again just in time for these or a new pair to come in and I'll have to get used to them all over again. Oh well, it could be worse.

Dropped them off at the LHS, the guy told me repeatedly that it was up to Bauer on how to move forward. He looked like he was waiting for me to scream and demand another pair but I just told him it was cool and to give me a call when they hear back from Bauer. I guess a lot of people bitch and yell with stuff like this. It's not worth getting crazy over.

Because if you don't flip, they know Bauer will take there sweet %#$ time to get back to them, you should tell your LHS to give you a new pair as soon as Bauer approuves it and Bauer can give the store a credit etc...

Hopefully that won't be the case. Several members have posted that Bauer has good customer support so I'm not going to worry. As long as I have my skates before 10/1, I'll be happy.

The guy at the shop said everything will come from Bauer, if they are replaced they will send the new pair to the shop. I honestly don't think they even have many pairs in stock right now anyway but he made it clear to me when I called and when I got there that Bauer would be handling everything and that all they do is get the RA and ship them off.

I like your response, finally someone with a bit of outrage!! I agree for the price they are now asking we should now get a custom fitting and not some generic skate that is apparently having some major quality issues right out of the gate. And I agree it's going to kill the sport, if I have kids someday and they want to play hockey I'm not going to spend $$$$'s for their equipment that's for sure!! Look at the complaints about the tongue also, forget about my rant on the tendon guard!! I'd be pissed if I was in pain wearing a $600 skate!! And there were suggestions about how to fix the lace bite problem ("get some aftermarket lace bite protectors", "it's a fit problem".. blah blah...), but again failed to fix the root problem.... How about fixing the problem back in the factory, build a better tongue!! That sounds reasonable to me!! I'm beginning to believe the skate is a piece of junk....... And I'm glad I didn't buy a pair.....

IMHO, in going to a LHS versus online, I would have the expectation that with a problem skate, another skate is available immediately as a trade - either the same one or a different skate (assume stock). The LHS should be able to handle the manufacturer. Thus, the end customer is not waiting on the manufacturer - as would be the case with an online store.

That's not the way Bauer wants it handled.

The LHS made that very clear several times so I can't complain about that. It would have been nice to just go and get another pair today but I can live with waiting a bit as long as it gets resolved.

Ah, yes... Bauer is into providing a quick resolution to the problem also!! LOL!! Streamline service, now there is a novel idea!! What a joke........

For those of you comenting on the prices of skates: Please don't start complaining about the prices in this thread. None of us here (with the exception to a few) have the slightest information about the economic situation of any of these companies. I am interested in reading this thread for what it is created for, and not random conjectures.

So Bauer is going to make any customer with a skate problem wait for Bauer to resolve it? Bauer will not support the LHS helping the customer in the meantime? The LHS is on their own to support their customers or hope they "buy" Bauer's customer service policy.

And even if so, the LHS could still help you as an end-customer - again, the possible advantage of a good LHS over online.

I understand where you are coming from, but price is a VERY BIG component of the whole issue. If these skates cost $300, it probably wouldn't be as big of an issue with some of us. As for the economic situation of these companies, they are not making these things to lose money!! Bauer is now a part of Nike, and Nike makes ALOT of money!! CCM is owned by Reebok. So price has a very big bearing in my mind. Price, product quality and service should all be intertwined, but with this product and company they are not... Bauer should have a solid system of response for issues like these since people are skating eveyday of the year. Who want to go back to their old skates?????

What evidence do you have that says they won't handle this promptly? I've never dealt with them on this level, that's why I started the thread. Everyone who has dealt with them and posted in this thread has said good things about their service.

I don't see any issues with Bauer wanting to see the skate and making a decision on if they want to warranty it. I also don't care about the warranty being handled on their end as long as it's done in a timely manner.

I was being sarcastic. Who knows maybe they will resolve the issue quickly. I had an issue with the Vapor XX's when they 1st came out, the response wasn't speedy....

Ok, I will just de-lurk for a second here...

First and foremost, be assured that NBH stands behind the ONE90 skate. We are extremely conscious of the consumer's expectations of this product and we will do everything in our power to make sure those expectations are fulfilled.

A word on testing. This is one of the most thoroughly tested products ever launched by NBH. Countless tracked hours have been put on the various versions of the skate, by players at many different levels, until we were 100% satisfied that the specs of the final version resulted in a product which met the all the targets established at project outset for this skate, in particular all aspects of performance and durability.

But development testing will never be able to catch everything - there is a lot that happens between spec finalization and mass production. And there are a great many variables in production, some of which can be tested for and controlled via production trial runs or QC testing, others cannot. For example, and I am not saying this is what happened in the case of some of the issues reported, but just to give examples - a contaminated batch of glue from a supplier can weaken long-term adhesion between parts, a riveting machine goes out of spec, a machine operator has a bad day. Some of these things also can be controlled to a greater or lesser extent but I hope you get the picture, it is a complex process, that is just the way it is for the current state of the art for the mass production of a hockey skate, a product whose manufacture involves many different operations, humans, materials, parts, and machines each with their own set of variables: settings, optimal conditions etc.

So if any of the issues reported now did not crop up during testing it is because either they were not present on any of the multitude of test pairs or if they did occur they were either not noticed or not reported, which would suggest that the level of severity would have had to have been extremely low because testers can be relied on to bring up anything negative, especially something which would make then want or need to stop using the product.

As to the question of NHL specs vs stock specs, it is not a case of one is better than the other and how come the NHL guys get the "good" specs. Far from it, pros have the option to ask for their own little tweaks here and there and so they do, many of them, for all kinds of reasons, sometimes relating to the very specific world of the pro hockey player and his mind-set and not always based on any real assessment of what is "best". Also, a lot of the customization is related to precise fit requirements and it is for a fit that the pro knows will give him his best skating performance.

Bottom line: we are listening and working to analyze any issues as they come up, respond to the best of our abilities to respect the needs of our customers. We remain 100% confident that the ONE90 skate will deliver unmatched skating performance to hockey players who really care about their game.

Thanks,

KC

PS - The real main reason that instant swap/replacement at the LHS is not an easy option is that demand for this skate has created short supply. There are already a lot of pairs out there. We will do our best to make sure that people who have bought the skate will be glad they did.

Thanks O-Zone.

Would you be able to give me a ballpark estimate on turn around time on something like this?

Sorry, but really hard to say, I would need information from others involved in the process. Better to not even hazard a guess. I will ask and PM you if I learn anything solid.

Please PM me if you hear anything at your (LHS) end or just to keep me posted.

kc

I have to sign off so if any other notes/posts addressed to me go unanswered, that is why, it may be awhile before I am back on...

Interesting posts here. I personally had very high hopes for the skates, and as far as performance goes these are seriously the best things out there ! I am not really sold on the quality factor tho, although I've been up to this now provided with great costumer service, but until I have a new pair of skates in my hands, which according to some estimates might take another 2 or 3 weeks and thats not even guaranteed I won't be truly happy. Yes its pretty ridiculous to consider for some to spend 800.00 CAD plus taxes for a skate that starts to break down after a week of skating, yes sure I understand what was said in previous posts here, that there is a ton of these skates out there and problems will occur, but then how do you change the mind set of the costumer who is actually stuck with the defective skate and has to wait for a new pair for almost a month, luckly I can still skate in mine. This is my 4th Nike or Bauer skate (Vapor XX's, Vapor XXX's, Flexlite 12's), and out of all this has been the weakest pair as fair as quality goes, but I am hoping its only because its a defective pair. And yeah in situations like these I know I will get bashed for sayin this, but when it comes to returns big online retailers are much better then lhs, because they just don't really care, but lucky for me I got mine from a hockey store thats 3 hours away lol whoo hoo.

What evidence do you have that says they won't handle this promptly? I've never dealt with them on this level, that's why I started the thread. Everyone who has dealt with them and posted in this thread has said good things about their service.

I recently had an issue with Bauer skates that were returned due to a defect. O-Zone I'm sure can better describe this, but what I was told by my LHS is that Bauer uses a 3rd party company for their warranty claims. The skates aren't sent back to Bauer, they're sent back to this company.

My LHS got a quick RA from the warranty company and promptly shipped my skates back. I gave my LHS about 3 weeks before I began hounding them to call the warranty company for updates. Soon after that (within a week) they heard that my skates would be replaced, not repaired. Then, rather than have the LHS just order me a replacement pair of skates, I waited around for a week and 1/2 for a pair that was supposed to show up in a shipment of NBH equipment they had coming in "any day now." My defective skates were XIX's. I finally got tired of waiting for their replacements and splurged on XXX's (LHS applied the value of the XIX's, $300, but still the XXX's were about 2/3 again the cost, $480.) I was eventually told that had they just ordered replacement XIX's I'd have gotten my new skates much more quickly, but in the end I'm extremely happy that I ended up with the XXX's.

To sum up - give your LHS some time, but then get on them if you don't hear anything. It's up to them to keep in touch with the warranty company.

Pro skates and customs for NCAA skates have some of the same issues as far as the outsole pulling away from the boot a little, the only difference is that the players know that it is not going to affect the performance of the skate. If the outsole seperates from the boot it will not effect the strength or performance because there are still 14 rivets ( Senior size skate) that attach the holder and outsole to the boot. Cosmetically it might look like shit but structurally it will be fine.

The rivets don't do much to hold the outsole onto most boots. The outsole is an important part of all hockey boots. I don't know about the new supreme line, but every time i've seen an outsole getting loose, it soon separated from the rest of the boot completely.

Not only that, but a loose outsole DOES adversely affect performance by loosening the fit, as well as not efficiently transferring energy from your legs through your feet and the holder to the ice.
