RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 15, 2006 [from tsn.ca]...Williams says he is thoroughly enjoying his time in Canada but would be careful about what other American players he'd recommend the CFL to."It depends on what you're looking for," he said. "If you want to live and you want to be around good people, then you play in the CFL."If you want to make money, obviously, you got to the NFL. It's all about what you want out of life."It was during his rehabilitation that Williams became a father for the fourth time when his fiancee gave birth to a girl. The couple also has a four-year-old son."It's hard," Williams said about having to raise two young children with all the demands upon him during a football season. "Fortunately my partner's mother is in town."But my little girl is a Canadian citizen, which is pretty nice." He's made A LOT of money already, maybe happiness is better for him than money....I wonder if he might stay in the CFL beyond this season.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted September 15, 2006 Actually, he didn't make as much as people think. His entry contract was heavily based on incentives and he did not hit all of them. He also had to give a lot of money back.
AtlantaThrashers01 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2006 you can never have enough money, look at donald trump he wants to keep getting it even though hes set for life. To tell you the truth i think NFL players are 10 times better then CFL players like their paycheck but i dont even really like ricky williams at all. He comes to the CFL obviously because he wants the publicity, he can take a year off or whatever then go back to the NFL, its not like hes going to lose all his talent. I dont think CFL should of accepted him, and he sucks anyways now hes off the juice

And i think its a little much to say NFL players are 10 times better then cfl players. Seeing as how Williams didnt even do good in the games he played. Have you even seen a CFL game? J-Shera 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 He's only played like 3 games, he's been out all year with a broken arm and a 16 stitch gash in his arm. He is back this weekend though and i expect a big game from him this week next week at the latest as toronto is on a role and there O-line is doing good. hockey3 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 I watch both the CFL and the NFL, there is really no comparison, the NFL is far better. The CFL is a different game with different rules, and is most likely why ricky couldnt make the adjustment in the few games he played.
NuggyBuggy 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 And i think its a little much to say NFL players are 10 times better then cfl players. I think it's clear that NFL players are, for the most part, hugely better than those in the CFL. Most CFL players couldn't even get scholarships to good D1 schools. Yes, they are different games with premiums on different things, but the difference in skill level and sheer physical talent between the two leagues is like the difference between night and day. The best skill players in the NFL would dominate in the CFL. The best skill players in the CFL would mostly be thrilled to crack an NFL lineup.Let's not even mention the stupid import rules which necessarily restricts the available talent pool even further. J-Shera 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 Alot of players in the CFL have played D1 ball and alot have played NFL aswell. Hell look at toronto, they have like 4 nfl first round draft picks, maybe more but all ran into legal troubles early and now have cleaned up and came here. Saskatchewans QB Kerry Joeseph played for the seahawks as a safety, lineman Nate Davis was a third round pick i belive out of Illinios. Kareem Kelly is one of USC's all time leading reiceivers etc. There are alot of D1 players in the cfl, just on the BC game last night there was a guy from Notre Dame who was like a third stringer on the lions. Its obvious that NFL has higher quality players but alot of people seem to have an attitude that if you play in the CFL you suck which is far from the case. People like Warren Moon, Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia are very good examples that there are and have been quality players in the CFL.

First, I concede that I overstated the case that most CFL players couldn't make a D1 lineup. I know that many of them did play D1 (but that a lot of them did not).Yes there have been many great players to come out of the CFL. But nowadays, if a guy is playing in the CFL it is because he couldn't play in the NFL, either for legal reasons or (more commonly) because he just couldn't make it. Take the Argos. Avery stunk it up with the Dolphins. Crouch never made it onto the field for St. Louis because he was deluded and thought deserved to play QB. Bishop couldn't play -was he even drafted ?. Soward was mediocre.Of the bunch of them, the only one who was able to play at a high level in the NFL was Williams. And it is interesting to note that all 3 of your examples decided to take their game to the NFL once they had proved themselves, which is where they wanted to be all along. J-Shera 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 I remember hearing that Warren moon had a chance to go to the NFL, but chose the CFL. And of course the players are going to go to the NFL look at the differences in money. Im just saying alot of good player played and play in the cfl. I can garentee if you ask Warren or doug if they regret playing in the cfl they would say they wouldnt of changed a thing.

I can garentee if you ask Warren or doug if they regret playing in the cfl they would say they wouldnt of changed a thing. Moon didn't choose the CFL, he was forced to play there. He was a star QB at Washington but he went undrafted because NFL teams wanted him to switch positions, probably because they were not ready for a black QB. He jumped ship once he could. The NFL only took him when he had established himself as perhaps the best player in the CFL.Flutie was a different story. He played in the USFL and then was mediocre at best for the Bears and Patriots. I can't remember if the Pats cut him, but the CFL then became his only option to play regularly. But of course, he came back to the NFL as soon as they wanted him back. Both players moved to the NFL after already establishing their bona fides as two of the greatest QBs in CFL history. Neither would regret playing in the CFL but that's because that was the only place left for them to play and try to claw their way to the NFL. If they had a choice at the time they never would have gone to the CFL.There are good players in the CFL, but they are largely there because the NFL doesn't think they're good enough. It's like saying that there are good players in the Arena League and then pointing to guys like Kurt Warner who later went on to light it up in the NFL. These guys are the exceptions that prove the rule.

ViperJQ 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 I dont think CFL should of accepted him, and he sucks anyways now hes off the juice How does he suck. In 2005 he was the backup for the starter Ronnie Brown. He ran for almost 705 yards only 150 less than the starter, averages the same amount of yards per run (4.4), and how two more rushing touchdowns than their starter. I don't know about you, but those aren't bad backup numbers at all. I still believe he could be a stater in the NFL.
