Training Camps

Recommended Posts

With all the training camps opening today, is anyone going out to watch their old favorites as well as prospects?

I read that Carolina will have 48 players in camp. They've got the ice at their practice facility from 8am to 1:30pm each day through Tuesday. I hope to make it out to see them.

EDIT: from the News&Observer Online:

CROWDED CAMP

With no rookie camp and a host of minor league veterans signed to bulk up Albany (AHL), the Canes will have 50 players in camp -- 29 forwards, 16 defensemen and five goalies. Last season, in coach Peter Laviolette's first training camp with the team, the Hurricanes opened camp with 39 players.

I was meant to get out to teh caps one today, but the president of the company is out, so that leaves me stuck having to come in, yeay me.

I am going on monday though.

Caps have 47 players I believe. They talked about the number compared to years past on the caps report on wednesday.

Basically before, there was a longer training camp, so teams would bring in upwards on 60 players, take a look and filter down, but the new CBA only allows for a 23 day training camp, so players who realisitically are not going to make it, don't get the invite.

The caps had a rookie camp in July in Hershey, so most of those guys will not be here, with the exception of Patrick McNeill, who had such a strong showing there, he has been invited back.

Now they just want who they realistically think will either make the jump to the NHL, or from juniors to the AHL before eligibility expires, everyone else goes back from whence they came
