Cages

Has anybody ever tried spray painting a cage? I have an itech RBE III and its gray or flat chrome, whatever its called now, but i'd like a black cage. I know most of you will tell me to go buy a black one, but i'm short on funds right now. I'm not going to go and do it, i just want to know if people have done it and how does it turn out, durability wise aswell.

Ive done it several times and it works for a while, then it fades off into rust and you just have to re-do it.
