Paintball

Recommended Posts

I've played a game or two with my friends, and I like it alot. I can't keep borrowing guns from people, so I was wondering what would be a good gun to get for a beginner, price range no more than $150. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Tippman 98 custom's(gun only) run in that price range. If you have a local sports authority, i would go there for quality guns in that price range. Another good gun is the Kingman Spyder. Ebay also has real good guns for cheap prices....

If you want a spyder, get a spyder extra, those are around your price range. If you wanna spend a little more you can get a spyder shutter, thats what I have and they are very nice. Its a bit more then a rookie gun but if you invest a little more money once you get good its easy to transform into a tournament play gun.

Im just starting too but have read tons on paintball. The Tippman 98 custom is a very reliable marker (paintball speak for gun) but is primarily only for woodsball. If you want something that you can upgrade later on to use in tournaments or don't like the look of the Tippmanns go for a Electronic or Semi Auto Spyder. The electronic Spyders have more upside to them but cost a wee bit more. The Imagine can be had at www.pbgear.com for $114. For Semi auto the Rodeo is a great marker and can be had at the same site for around $120. I would recommend buying your gear on www.pbgear.com unless you want to buy locally. PM me if you would like more info or just reply.

A great site to read about paintball stuff is www.pbnation.com its a forum and has a great section for new players. www.pbreview.com has thousands of reviews on every paintball product in existance and is great for deciding what gear you want.

Hope this helps :)

DO NOT GET AN AUTOCOCKER FOR YOUR FIRST MARKER!

sorry, but there is no way he would be able to learn anything from a cocker. The internals are much more intricit (sp?) than any Spyder. Plus if it ever broke or something wasn't working right he probably wouldn't be able to fix it. I would recommend a Spyder or a Spyder Clone, like a Mongoose, Piranha, etc. Then if you are hardcore into playing and want to be competitive get a cocker. Just my $0.02 :)

Exactly what I was saying. Also, dont get a crappy gun like a maurader or a brass eagle. That would be a waste of money.

I think the spyder is an excellent first gun. I've gone through a few to get the one I wanted, the converted it to low pressure. Side by side, it shoots almost as good as a cocker...but the cocker did still out perform. The cocker is a complicated gun though. At least it was 2 years ago before I stopped playing.

I wrote an article for action pursuit games on how to convert a spyder to a low pressure marker. Sent pictures in and everything. Made 75.00 for the article. It was pretty fun.
