CCM vector 10 skate fit

Recommended Posts

A quick quesion on the fit of the Vector 10's.I just got a pair ( a present ) and skated in them for the first time The problem is the back end keeps on sliding out to the sides when I stride.Even though they do not feel overly loose in the heel could it be that they are a little too loose and this is causing the sliding out to the sides ? I was wearing CCM Externo E 60's in a 7.5d and they are fine ( the 10's are also 7.5d ).Are the Externos considered to have a narrower heel than the 10's ? I was curious if anyone had any advise on this.I did not bake them when I got them, would baking help with the sliding problem ? Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks,CF.

I switched from Bauer Supreme 7000 in 8,5 C/AA to Vector 10s in 7,5C/A (8,5 was too long). The heel in Vector 10 is wider than in my Bauers. But my Vector10s fit me snug and I have no problems with the heel part. What could help some is manually heating the heel area up with a heat gun and sqeezing the heel part of the boot (not when the skate is on the foot). But you are running a risk of damaging the boot if you have no experience. I'd just heat fit the skates first at a LHS and see how they feel after that. Note: If your toes don't reach the edge of the skate insole that means your skates are to big for you.

If you feel your sliding-out could your problem may be that your blade was not sharpened completely??? Sometimes the first time a pair of skates are sharpened the sharpener does Not get a complete edge across the blade????

I believe if your heel was sooo loose that it slides around in the skate you should know/feel that when putting them on the first time???

Hope things work-out.

Thanks for the replies. As far as sharpening goes that was what I thought of first so I swapped the runners from the 10's to the Externo's and visa versa and the new steel from the 10's skated fine on the Externo's and the Externo steel still slid out on the 10's .Any other ideas ? They are brand new ,never worn before me and sharpened to 5/8 ''.

Thanks again.

Difference in pitch?? I'm not as familiar with CCM holders, but is the pitch different from the Externo to the new Pro Holder on the Vectors? I'm surre J.R., Chadd, OTG or many others here may be able to tell you.

As I've ruled out the sharpening being bad and having read another post saying that '06 ccm's are sizing out different than previous years ( has any one else had this problem with the 10's ? ) I have another quick question. As I never baked these skates ,in other peoples experience if you are eperiencing slight heel lift ( in any brand ) has heat molding helped to fix the problem ? If I go by the numerous sizing charts available online these 10's should fit like my Externos of the same size. They fit great up front but as I said I seem to be getting a little heel lift in the boot making the back end slide a little. As the Vector 10 is such a high end skate ( too much skate for me maybe ) is it a given that heat molding really gives you a better fit ? Any advise or tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Not really. You can't really thermofit the heel or rather make it narrower by baking the skates. To me it sounds like your skates are a little too big. Is your heel narrow? Mine is. And I am finding out that V10's heel is wider than RBK 8K's. Yet my Vector 10s were sized for a snug fit and I don't have any heel play when I skate.

Yes, the Externo line was very tight in the heel. Well they were for me. I went from '98 CCM 652 size 11.5D to a pair of Externo 60's, 10.5D. I never tried baking but after two skates my heels were numb after one period each time. I then bought Bauer 6000 which are also too tight in the heel. I found that the vector's fit very well but the best has been RBK D widths. If you have a such a narrow heel, I'd go with some old model Supreme's except for the 5090 or 8090, which a re wider and actually fit my feet well. I also recommend Graf 703 for narrow feet.
