Fitting/Upgrading to the one90's

Recommended Posts

Hey all, new to the forums but have "lurked" for many months reading advice about gear. Very much appreciated! Time to sign up and contribute, I figure.

So, I've been reading several posts about the NBH one90 skates and have tried them on in a couple of the local shops here in So Cal. My main question is fitting for the width. I'm currently in a 10EE in Vapor XX's. In the one90's it seems a 9.5 is the perfect length for me which coincides with what Bauer says about fitting the new boot. My toes just barely touch the end when standing and hardly at all when flexed forward.

My bigger struggle is in choosing the right width. I was planning on EE again but I stopped by a local shop yesterday and all they had were D's so I tried them on. Surprisingly, I didn't find them to be too narrow. The boot was definitely tight, but not painfully so. So I'm wondering if after some baking the boot might actually end up feeling perfect?

I measure around an E width or even close to EE on the bauer foot measure device so I'm very hesitant to go with a D but ultimately it's how the boot feels and not what the scale says I should wear, right? So, how much do you guys think baking will mold the boot in regards to width? I'd describe the discomfort around a 3 or so on a scale of 1 to 10 but it's hard to know how it's going to feel after 2 hours of hard skating. I've also read it's better to miss on the narrow side because a) better to be a little tight than a little loose and b ) you have options for breaking the width in some if it's a little tight, but if it's too loose, you're hosed.

Any advice would be much appreciated because I'd hate to drop $600 on a pair of skates and end up having them be a bad fit! And I'll keep an eye on the one90 review boards to see how people are liking them. Thanks!!

i'm not sure how available these skates are in your area but if i were you i'd do my best to at least try and find a 9.5EE to atleast try it on, that's the only way your gonna know which one is better.

Sorry I should have mentioned that, I did try some 9.5EE's on over the weekend as well and they felt good. But that was when I didn't even have the thought of going with D's in my head so I wasn't paying real close of attention to the width. I was more concerned with the fit at the heel because the guy had said that had been where most of the complaints about the one90's he had received were about. Definitely plan on trying EE's on again before doing anything though.

oh i see, well personally i dont fit well in the xxx's even a EE is a little bit two narrow but i find that a EE one90 fit perfectly. So depending on how your foot is shaped i'd say go with the D if it didn't feel two small because it is easy to make a skate bigger but you can't make it smaller.

If the D's are snug I'd go with them; they really alter in the baking process. But I'd get JR's and OTG's seal of approval on this one to be sure!

Great advice thanks guy. So how tight is too tight prior to heat molding? Would you say "if it feels tight but it doesn't hurt, thats perfect" ? Because that is how I would describe the fit when I tried the D's on. It was very tight but wasn't painful.

I have the same issue.I wear a 13EE shoe and a 14EE running shoe and have been wearing a Graf G9 11 regular. I agonized when I ordered my new G5 ultras

about weather to go with a wide or a regular.I opted for the regular because, worse case scenario, you can stretch them or punch them out.Too wide and you are screwed.I had the same degree of dicomfort that you describe, mostly on my left foot only. After 4 times on the ice(no socks) they are good.
