blueliner27 12 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 This year was the first time to organize such school hockey team. So, I was sooo excited. For preparation of new league, I bought 2 Dolomites, one-piece, and some brand new gears. But, I found out today that the school distrcit forbidded playing hockey as a team. Heck, what kind of people are they? According to my coach-supervisor, due to "high risk involved", they disallowed any kind of school league. And they even said that it's their duty to "protect students away from the danger". Okay, but I wonder, why did the district permit rugby or field lacross teams which are even more dangerous? The school league has limiting checking rule so that I don't think this would be a problem. What a dumb idea it is!"That is the definition of joke right there" - Lindy RuffYeah Lindy, I guess this applies. Any comment about this bull sh*t happenings? UMWhockey 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 things like this happen when non hockey people make decisions on hockey. It happens in school districts and in just about every travel hockey association. I went through some of the same problems in the early years of high school hockey in Northern Va. It takes some time for people to warm up to the idea, but just going off of what has happened in Va, it is possible. The NVSHL has something like 30 teams just in the DC area of VA. Most teams are at least reconised by the school as a club and some are starting to be able to letter. This has been a process going on from 1996 when the first team started to now. Just because this year might be a wash you should try to explore any avenues you may have. Also getting the people who make these decisions to meet with a group of parents and players also helps. All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 Hockey is not big enough here where I live. (2 hours south of Chicago)Although we have much of the talent in the state. I live in Bloomington Normal, Illinios. Which is supposedly the #1 ranked growing town in the nation. We bring the best players to team Illinios and we bring the best players to all the travel organizations around. Although hockey isnt extremly big in our town, it is in surrounding towns. (Peoria/Chicago)Our school doesnt support hockey because we didnt have a rink last year. We traveled 1-2 hours every night to practice in other towns. The school district said excactly what you said. "Hockey is to violent of a sport". Although we dont have lacrosse, we have football. Last year our football team went to state and got 2nd. Our hockey team won both leagues we played in for a first year team. That is pretty damn good. Still they wont sponsor us.This year we have a rink of our own in town. (as mentioned before, a fast growing town gets an arena). The school district is starting to move forward on the subject since so many students showed interest in the game. (we had sections in the school newspaper). I think one thing that is helping majorly this year is that we are trying to get a teacher at school to be our assistant coach.I think that you could possibly do what our team did. Since your school wouldnt take you in, just be a club team. Steal the logo and only let kids from your school try out. Advertise the games at school and make T-shirts of your team.Best of luck to getting a school team.We are in the same boat.
blueliner27 12 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 thanks guys, since our school did not promoted as a school team, we had made a club. In addition, we do not have own rink, but we have tons of rinks near us (around five or six, one is currently building new for matching olympic sized). Okay, we have place to hold a league, and we already got enough people (15 players+2 golies + 3 spares). What should be a problem?

hooshockey77 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2006 My school plays in league where there is a bunch of other schools for around town. The teams don't really have anything to do with the school's themselves but just use the name and are club teams. There has been some interest though by the school and we've had some admistators come to the games. Kids at the school don't have much interest though seeing that we have 6 skaters and a goalie.
