time to replace my goal pants -

Recommended Posts

my old 2 piece Visions (circa 97/98) are starting to tear, mainly the inner spandex part.

heres what im looking at, at the moment...

RBK Premier Pro

ITECH HP Prodigy

Vaughn 7000

and maybe the Nike/Bauer Vapor XXX

ive never seen any of these pants except the Vaughns, and im only going by the description the manufactuers are giving. so im in the dark.

i did a search and not much came up of relevance, so im asking you guys.

im really not to keen on large 5 hole pads on pants so the Itech's are looking pretty good at this point.

what say ye!?

Far and away the nicest goalie pants I've seen are the new Bauer/Nike XXX Pro Goalers. Way back when we had the ModSquadHockey.com Michigan Squadron game, JR had the Nike/Bauer rep on hand with all their new goalie stuff which would be coming out this year. I went through all the gear they had and was really impressed by three pieces in particular. The skates, the chest and arm and the pants. They weren't just copies of existing pants or rebranded previous model stuff. They were completely re-engineered. AND most importantly...done RIGHT! Usually the first thing I do when I see a new piece of gear is think to myself "wow, that's almost perfect, the only thing I would change would be _____ and maybe _____ . " Essentially nothing is usually what I would consider to be perfect just the way it is. These three pieces were! And believe me I'm the furthest thing away from a Bauer/Nike gear supporter so I've got no reason to go out on a limb and say the stuff is something it's not. The protection was more than adequate, the pant was lightweight and very mobile and most importantly the exterior hip pads and the extended knee wings did not hinder your movement. I currently wear CCM Gatekeeper Pro pants. And two of the biggest problems I've had with them are the exterior hip wings straining at the nylon shell and ripping it open and the knee wings getting caught up in the risers on my goal pads. Everything else about the pants is great, its just the usual two things I would changed to make them perfect scenario. Bauer/Nike obviously saw the same engineering flaws and corrected them on their pants before they brought them to market.

So to make a long story short. I would, and have highly, recommended the Bauer/Nike XXX Pro pant. In fact my boss asked me about pants for his daughter this past summer. I advised him the same thing. He bought a pair last month from Goalie Crease when they finally came out and his daughter is now wearing them and she absolutely loves them.

I used to wear the Vaughn Velocities and they were solid pants. VERY tough you dont feel any pain or stingers in those, they are like a tank. Very durable, they do take some time to break in but once they do you really have a good amount of protection and mobility. However I have heard nothing but good things about the Nike Bauer's as well, I myself would like to try those.
