First Accident

So lucky guy that I am, I got up this morning to give my cousin a ride at the airport because we are kinda on a one week break here in Moncton, he lives about 3 blocks up the road from here and he was going to Toronto for the week. As I was going in the driveway (at my cousins place) with my car this guy comes and rams me on the passenger side damaging my whole passenger side (door, side mirror complety gone, rims scratched, also my front bumper broken in two and side front fender completly in, He had a Blazer so compared to a little Honda Civic it's alot bigger). His excuse was that the road divides on two lanes later down the road and he thought I was going in the side lane to do so, but he tried to pass me on the right side as I was turning right with my signal and everything, the Cops didn't seem to buy it. Everything is completly his fault and he was probably speeding alot because I remember when I got on that road, I had about half a killometer difference between me and the next car. So right now I'm waiting for a call from the inspector who is supposed to be comming in the next 24h to look at the damages of my car and probably he will tell me that I will have a rental car for a couple of weeks. I have good insurances and also I was going up to Edmundston on sunday for the october/november break, the only reason why I am still in Moncton is because I have to work saturday night.

Just a question, were you swinging wide to make the turn? Just wondering why the dip thought he had room to pass on the right.

Nope didn't swing at all, he probably never looked at my signal light and he just thought of passing me on the side. You know, when people stop and they make a left turn and you pass them on the right, that is probably what he thought of doing. But I was making a right turn with my right signal on and he tried to go by on the right side and he hit me on my passenger side. He was right behind me.

Weird...tack it up to stupid drivers I suppose. I was asking because I see a lot of people here in the Metro Detroit area LOVE to swing wide for both left and right turns....it confounds me.

Another reason to have stricter driving laws as they do in Germany. IE no passing on the right, no cruising in the left ect ect.

Well the adrenaline is still pumping, nothing feels wrong so far and like I said to my mother and uncle, who is in Toronto and who's son I was bringing to the airport, a car is just material, my life and health is more important. I'm just anxious for the insurance to come chek the damages and so on, today is friday and I don't know if they are openned on saturdays. I really have to be home on sunday (about 5 hours of drive). I asked the guy, is it your first acident, he said no, I said it's my first, it's also my first car.

UPDATE: So my insurance called me, they wil come take a look at my car next week and they will pay for a rental car. The guy said to his insurance that if was fully responsible for the accident. I have a small headache right now and probably a whiplash cause my neck hurts from the right side, nothing huge really.

The EXACT same thing happened to me as I was making a right turn into a bank parking lot. It was one lane that turns into two about 200 meters ahead. At first I thought it was my fault cause I couldn't understand how someone could be that stupid. I only got a minor scratch on my bumper that's pretty much unoticeable....he had a nice dent around his gas cap and a cracked bumper. The moron stopped for a second after the accident and decided to speed off without getting out of the car. Thank god I had basically no damage cause him booking it kind of caught me by surprise.

if he's got a dent around his gas cap, which is usually in the back of the car, sounds like it IS your fault. the front of your car hit the back of his.

Not when he's going 20 over trying to pass me on a one lane street when my indicator is on. Yes, I was the one that hit him, but he came from behind trying to pass me on the right side as I was making a right turn into a parking lot.
