AxFirexInside 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 i just bought the game counter strike stand alone so i dont need half life but everytime i try to go into an internet game it says you cannot enter because i dont have the right protocol version...i have DSL and windows XP if that hellps..but what do i do!? i justy wann play the game! asdfa 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 what version does it say on your box? the counter-strike that comes in most boxes should be 1.5 but if its not, you're gonna hafta update it here. you can also download steam which is a different program for running counterstrike and it is version 1.6, which has some newer guns and stuff. hope this helps Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

asdfa 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 yeah i tried to update the patch and i signed up to the website and everything but everytime i go to click the update for patch it never does anything and everytime i go to if its not downloading..it doesnt work either..is there anywhere else i can download the patch k, so go to counter-strike.net, click "download 1.6", click "click here to download steam" this sends you to fileplanet.com, so click the download button (make sure you're logged in first) then scroll down to where it says "free public servers", then pick one and wait. you have to install a fileplanet downloading manager thing but that's automatic. this is your best bet, if you still have trouble, go ahead and look around on google, but my friends and i have done it, just get the "steam client" thing and install it Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

asdfa 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2004 once you install it, it updates itself. this little window pops up, and you hafta click on games, then double click on counter strike, that'll "enable" it but you hafta wait for it to update itself. right click and select properties to check on the progress, once it's 100%, you can play it Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
