Labeda Hummer question

Recommended Posts

I remember a deal a while back where (I think) tour was offering to mount a labeda hummer chassis on your skates and dremeled out the sole to make the wheels work (80 mm). So, my questions are:

1. Can 76 MM wheels be used in place of 80 MM?

2. If so, will the sole need to be dremeled?

Thanks

Pretty sure that promo is over.

They provided you with all 80mm's as part of the deal so you don't have the option to sub out for other sizes... and even so, the frame is not built to accomodate 76mm wheels and could possibly deform over time because of this. I wouldn't recommend trying that.

I don't see why you couldn't use 76mm wheels insted of 80's! If the frame is built to accomodate 80mm wheels, you would think they would put more strain on the frames than if you put 76mm wheels in! I don't see why you would want to, but I also don't see why you couldn't! I don't think you would have to dremel out any of the sole with the 76mm wheels, but that may depend on the boot you are using? Hope this helps?

Umm... no, I don't believe you have your facts straight. Using different sized wheels has nothing to do with deforming of the chassis. Any sized wheels can be used on skates, as long as they touch the floor in accordance to the design. Hi-Lo wheels have an offset of 8mm, so as long as your two sets of wheels are within 8 mm of each other, they would work properly.

The only problem with 76's straight across is that the chassis was designed with enough material to support all 80's, and the result would be unnecessary weight. No deforming would occur, but your boot may be lower to the ground, causing the possibility of more wear on the sides of your boot.

All 80's is a great feeling. Unless 76 is the only choice you have, go with the 80's, you won't regret it.

No problem using all 76's versus all 80's, you would not need to dremel the boot. There are no differences with weight regarding how we would design between all 80 versus all 76.

I would advise to dremel your boot to accomodate the all 80's as there is a significant advantage to the all 80's but if you have a valid reason why you would use the 76's okay!

I am not sure if the promotion is still available your best bet would be to contact Tour.

You're right, I kinda pictured in my head a hi-lo setup with 80's in the back and 76 in the front to avoid the dremel action... lol. Reading that again, I see what you guys are saying and I totally agree all 76's wouldn't be a problem. Brain freeze!

Thanks for the replys. I was asking because on inlinewarehouse.com, the hummer frame page says the frame can accomidate up to 80mm wheels, leading me to believe smaller wheels could be used. It even mentioned dremeling may be necessary on the front two spots if 80mm wheels are used.

I assume you're looking to do the swap without dremeling to retain the outsole's integrity?

I've read about people not needing to dremel boots at all, most notably, Bauer Vapors because there is a recess in the outsole.

I think you might even be able to get away with using shims in the front and rear of the skate where the chassis meets the boot, although this will have you sitting a little bit higher, and slightly less stable. The wheels arent all that far recessed on my Beemers.
