Skate pitch

Recommended Posts

(I posted this on the Hockey Forums board as well)

I was thinking about this whole skate pitch thing and had a question. Even if a good sharpener can match a profile of another blade, don't the different blade holders just sit different on a boot. In other words if you took the blades out of different skates ( Graf, CCM, Bauer) wouldn't they sit with different pitches.

It looks like the heel is just higher with Cobra holders than Tuuks.

If that is true, then even if you profile a blade to give the player the balance he/she wants, that same balance would have a slightly different feel on another

brand of skate holder? Sorry if I'm getting too scientific, I just think that nothing is free and if you take a very forward holder like a Cobra and balance it out towards the heel there is some tradeoff that may or may not work for some. Thanks for any responses!!

A good profile should be able to compensate for differences in the holder itself.

If you are referring to pitch of the boot, if the sharpener knows what he's doing, I'm sure he can also compensate for the boot's pitch.

After rereading you post you're not referring to boot pitch, but I'll leave that in there anyways.
