my fitting issue....

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, I've been in RBK skates (I've had the 5K Pump, and reciently I've been wearing the 8K) since I've picked up skating again. I've been wearing a size 7.5E, and the length and width was perfect. I had a very wide forefoot, extremely low arch, wide heel, and thick ankles....to make matter worse, my feet are pronated because of the flat arch. When I first got my 8K's, they've been perfect. As they've broken in, I noticed my right foot turns outward inside my skate. It sucks because the blade isn't parallel with my foot.. so it's hard to get on my outside edge when I move laterally to my right. Like I mentioned, I'm a beginner, and little things like this get me really discouraged. I've receiently gotten grey Superfeet, but that foot still turns outward.

I was attempting to get into One90's, as I figured the "negative space" would help keep my foot in place, and keep it from turning....but I'm sure you guys have read my horror stories on waiting for those. With my foot problems, I understand I should probably spend a little extra to take care of them, and get a proper fit... I'm not just trying to jump on the "One90 train".. so I've been thinking of trying to locate a pair in my size at another lhs. I also wanted to look into a pair of 9K's.. my 5K pumps never had that "foot turning" problem.. I'm an idiot, and never should have gotten rid of them.

Is there anyway I could get one skate in an E width, and the foot that turns in a D width?

I dunno... I'm getting annoyed, so any input would help.

well, shims sound like the best alternative right now. I'm between jobs, so getting a referral to a podiatrist, or ortho would be pretty tough

anywhere I can look into picking up, or researching shims?

thanks so much

that's cool... well this is what I found

Keeping the ankle perpendicular to the ground and straight up and down while skating brings out the best performance. Users of custom orthoses (shoe inserts) should transfer them to skates or buy orthoses especially made for skates to help maintain the best possible position.

Common side-to-side wobbling in the heel area can be remedied with "shims," or pads, in the heel. Shims can also be added to the counter area, or middle of the skate, for a more snug fit.

now would the RBK Pump be a somewhat remedy? Like I mentioned.... I never had this issue with my 5K's.

If it's no problem, PM me your email address... I can shoot you pics of the skates in the morning.

Again, thanks so much... you guys are all great. I seriously love this site.

Have you tried getting your holders realigned to the centre of your feet rather than the theoretical centre of the boot?

My feet aren't very flat but flat enough that it causes me back pains if I'm not wearing orthotics. I supinate (heel rolls outside-in with each step) which caused me to break down the heel counter of my boots prematurely. After having the shop guys punch the heel back into position and having the holders realigned...it has literally felt like a miracle. No pain, no discomfort, absolutely perfect.
