AlGiballa23 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Hey all. I used to play non-check ice hockey recently (over the summer) but quit for a while due to $. If you have any tips on what to do I'd appreciate it. my main problem with winger is receiving passes, dekeing people, and not losing the puck. overall i just need some tips/pointers, maybe even some drills to do during stick/puck. Thanks!
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Keep you're head up. Vision is the most important thing in hockey. Keep you're feet moving aswell.Dont worry about dekes and losing the puck. Dump and chase can work just as well if not better. As far as drills, just stickhandle as much as possible. Bounce the puck of something as if you would be receiving a pass. Grave77Digger 1 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Power your way to the net with or without the puck and look for loose pucks and rebounds. Drive to the net with authority and youll most likely open up ice for the puck carrier dragging dmen with you.Power your way to the net with or without the puck and look for loose pucks and rebounds. technophile 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 See if you can find a friend or teammate who's willing to go to a stick-and-puck and practice passes. Make sure you're moving, use backhand as well as forehand (both to pass and receive), try to replicate game situations, saucer passes, etc. Put some snap on the passes, etc.The only way to get better is to practice--and practice like you play. AlGiballa23 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2006 Thanks guys I appreciate it alot...If you can, i'd like to keep the tips coming...how long do you think of playing once a week I can improve? Lets say i stickhandle everyday for 15 mins, but actual time playing once a week...and I can't really lift weights due to a back injury, but i can play (since it's non-check) so IDK that I can get the most powerful legs out there...is this a big problem? --notorious 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2006 When i started playing something that helped me alot was i watched some of the better players on my team. See what they do in certain situations. Try to watch them and learn how the rest of your team plays.
sonsplayhockey 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2006 How do you fit skillwise with the rest of the team? When I started playing myself a couple years ago, since I sucked at stickhandling and recieving a pass (some would argue I still do), the captain stressed that I forecheck and backcheck like hell out there as well as make sure I always looked up to pass and passed TO someone on OUR team and not just dump it to the other team's D. I play some on a D level team with more than half the team much worse than me. Those are the things that very few of them do. Forecheck as fast as you can, make that other guy think your gonna steal it. You more than often won't, but your impact it to try to make them make a bad pass. If your forechecking and backchecking hard, you'll cause turnovers, you won't get any points on your stats likely, but your teamates will appreciate it. You'll also help out your stamina and skating skills doing that. Your teammates will reward you by passing you the puck more also.
Docter Pepper 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2006 Just work hard. All i play is 2 night a week of pick up hockey, but if you just bust your ass as a forward and press their players, you will be suprised at how my turnovers you can create.
