High School Ice Hockey Player Dies During Game

Recommended Posts

I have more information on Alex's condition and its detectability for those who are interested.

While there were several heart attacks (one at 73 and one at 52) in his family, Alex died of an undetected heart problem called ARVD (arrythmegenic right ventricular displaysia).

He had a check up yearly and his last was in July 2006. This condition cannot be detected with a routing check up and it could take up to 6 different tests to locate it. The only reason for a family to do these tests would be if there was a history of ARVD in their family.

I hope this clears up some of the unanswered questions for those who had them.

Do you have a link to this? I'm interested in it because there is a long history of it in my family.

Thanks for the link, I was looking for one specific to Alex though. Thought I might forward it along to the family cardiologist.

I don't think there is a link... rh_joel was his friend.

Wow, just noticed this topic...

A player on my team here in Phoenix and one of my best friends just moved here from Toronto over the summer.

He was best friends with the kid who died there and was visiting Toronto at the time of his death...It was VERY rough for him. He now wears "A.C." ( the kid's initials) on his helmet and gloves.

:(
