Holey Soles!

Recommended Posts

What's the limit to say, how many sets of holes one could put in the soles of the average skate? Say a Graf 705?

Here's the deal; I recently put t-blades on my 705's (and promptly took them back off!) and put the Cobra's back on, but I've now got 2 sets of holes in my soles.

Also, now that I've found the perfect fitting boot(Graf xx5, 11w) I want one for ice and one for roller. I'm getting the Sprung's in April; I need a boot to put them on, and if I don't like them I will go back to my Tri-di chassis.

This gives me a potential total of 4 sets of holes in the soles of my 705's, can they withstand this? Will the soles buckle under skating pressures with that many holes in them?

I'm not concerned with cost. I was thinking of using these as experimental skates and later buying 2 new pairs of boots for ice and roller (Graf 705 or G5Ultra), but if you guys think the soles will hold up I would consider keeping them.

To drill, or not to drill?

A follow up question...would filling the holes with an epoxy type material help the soles regain their strength?

I think its more of a cosmetic thing, at the end of the day, they dont look good with loads of holes in the bottom, good way of ventilation though.

I normally fill in the holes if im chaging a set of holders, on a graf skate as the RMS system hole is bigger than a rivet. Just depends on what the customer wants.

Filling in the holes would not cause any harm.

I have Cobra, LS and PITCH holes in my skates. Just got copper rivets for all the holes a few minutes ago, but I usually have issues with rivets looseng anyways. The soles are holding up just fine for these holes.

I know someone with 703's that has gone from Cobras, to Customs, to LS2, and to T-Blades with no reinforcing material as far as I know.
