Skate Sizing Nightmare. I am nuts?

Recommended Posts

Had a pair of Vapor XX's 8.5 EE which fit perfect....unbaked. They wore out and fell apart so tried on a pair of XXX's in the same size, which seemed too tight. So I purchased the 9 EE. When these broke in they were too big. Foot was sliding around. Went to a One90 in an 8 EE. These were a little snug but I figured they'd give a little after they broke in. They did not and they are just a little too tight now. The problem being that the eyelets do not come up over the side of my foot.

How can I find the right size or get a custom pair made? I would gladly pay $1000 for a pair of skates that fit properly.

I have had problems with sizing aswell. I where a size 8.5 XX and i can fit into a Supreme70 size 7!! Best advice is just try on sizes of skates and find the right ones for you. The LHS should be able to advise you as its there job. Many skates come up different sizes. Tour for example generally are the same as your shoe size. RBK .5 size bigger (i think) With the one90s unique fit you really need to try all sizes. I havent worn them so i cant really advise you about them.

Believe me....I understand. Went through skate hell this summer looking for the skates to replace my 2000 Nike Ignite 1s. From trying on and skating in all of the following skates, the differences between skate sizing on the same foot is an interesting proof of the differences of a company's choice of a last:

NBH One90 - 9D

NBH Vapor XXX - 9.5D

RBK 9K - 8.5C

Vector 10/10SE and CCM Pro Tacks - 8.5D

Easton 1500C - 10D

Bauer Vapor 10 / Bauer Supreme 8000/7000 - 10D

Every skate just fits different...gotta try before you buy!

What size were your Nike Ignite's?

i'm not 100% sure but i think you can send pictures and outlines of your feet to bauer and theyll make you a custom skate for $100 more than whatever that skate costs.

So i went to 3 LHS's and solved my issue. Here's the deal:

1. The side wall (not sure if I am using the right terminology) on the One90 is shorter than on the Vapor. What I mean is that from the bottom of the boot to the top of the eyelets is short. My foot is tall in the middle (from arch to the top side of my foot in the middle. With the One90, the top of my foot was sticking up over the eyelets. With the Vapor it was not. I guess that Vapor boot is "deeper"? Now I can lace the skate properly and the fit is fine.

2. Although I was an 8.5 EE in the XX, I am an 8 in the XXX.
