Skate fitting help

Recommended Posts

I live in an area without any really well stocked LHS, so there isn't much opportunity for me to try on a bunch of different skates. I am considering taking a long weekend trip to a shop somewhere to try on some skates but would like some pointers for my foot type. I have a very flat foot, mediumish instep, very wide forefoot, and I guess the heel is narrow-mediumish.

I have 3 pairs of skates, none of which fit well. My CCM 852 Super Tacks are size 6E, the length is perfect, the heel is snug and just about right, but the forefoot is way to skinny, I would probably need a 7E in this skate fit the forefoot, and the toebox is also not wide enough.

I also have a pair of Mission D2C size 7.5D. The length is maybe just a hair too long (but a half size down would almost definitely be too short), the heel area is a bit too loose in width, and the forefoot is too narrow, although not as bad as the 852s. The toebox is slightly too narrow but decent enough to put up with.

My most used pair of skates is a RBK 6k size 7E. These at least allow me to make it through full games but only because they are too big. The length of these is too long, the forefoot width is perfect, the toebox is slightly too large, and the heel is slightly too loose.

I would like to get a new pair of both ice and inline. Can any fitting experts make some recommendations of what to look at?

It sounds to me, you might want to have a look at the Nike Flexlites...(although I'm no fitting expert)

Your footshape sounds similar to mine. I went to an LHS and they fitted me with Easton Synergy 800C's, with Wide width size. I've found them to be quite comfortable. It does lack some arch support though, but better insoles (I use Superfeet) can help.

Thanks, looks like Eastons should fit approx. 1.5 sizes below measured shoe size. Does this seems pretty accurate to you?

I went one size below my shoe size for my 800Cs. I wear a size 9 shoe and got size 8 skates. As everyone says, try a bunch on and see how they feel. Stand and walk around in them as much as you can too.

I didn't want to start a new topic on skate widths so I'm just adding on to this one. I just got Synergy 700's for a b-day gift and they're size 9EE. The lenght is perfect as I'm a size 10 in shoes. However, the width I'm not to sure about. Can anyone provide a width sizing chart for skates? I've looked online but can't turn up anything useful. I measured my width and my feet are about 3.5 inches wide. Is that a D, E or EE

Thanks.

Well I've searched around on here for some reviews of skates I want to get as my old ones are 3 years old and the backs are now starting to break.

I am basically just wondering what a good mid quality skate is. I have an average foot, I was kind of looking at Synergy 700's, 800's or 900's as there isnt really a price diffrence where im looking, can anyone tell me if they would be good fit for the average E width foot?. But is there any real change from a CMM skate to Easton because I have CCM, but I can usually adjust pretty fast...

Sorry if this was the wrong place to ask, it was just the first one I found that was kind of related to my question.

Fit on your foot between easton and CCM will be different, but as far as feel on the ice they'll be pretty similar since both holders have a neutral pitch to them.

Can't give too much info on the differences of the actual fit though.

Try them on in the store and see what you like.

Welcome to the board.

Yeah I was kind of just wondering about the sizing because I saw a really good deal on the skates on hockeymonkey.com and I kind of hate going into a store just to try on stuff I'm not going to buy from them...

Well at least you're honest enough that you wouldn't go into a store to try on a skate that you were buying online. that's a big time pet peeve around here, and for good reason.

I'm sure that conducting a search will give a bit more info on sizing of easton vs. ccm.

Also, saving $20-30 now will cost you more in the long run. Take into account baking and first sharpening, and your savings are gone right there. Both of these come free from the LHS when a skate is bought from them. I'd rather spend a couple of extra dollars at the LHS and have peace of mind that they'll back me than be all on my own when it comes to any issues i may have with my skates or other product. To me, Online is great for closeouts and clearances, but when you're paying within $50 of the price at your LHS, it's just not worth the risk.

Yeah the synergy skates at my LHS well at one of them the other I havent been to for the 900's they are about 500 I think. On the site there about 250 clearance priced...So thats why I was wondering, about the sizing and the 6.0's are pretty cheap on there also...

I still should go to the Source for sports to, i might even be able to get a deal from the source for sports since my dad knows the owner.

Thanks for some of the advice you guys have given me so far
