RBK 7V Sickick - Blade Question?

Recommended Posts

The blade on my RBK Sickick broke. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience pulling the blade out of this stick or any RBK stick? Is it even possible? I'm just assuming it's a two piece construction.

Any feedback would help at this point.

Thanks,

Ian

Have fun with that quest. Getting the blade out is near impossible, not completely impossible but extremely rare. Usually you can cut the shaft just above the blade hosel and use a tapered blade. Or just flip it around and stick a standard blade in the butt end!!

I tried it on a RBK 5k and couldn't do it. I cut just above the hosel and had to sand down a non-tapered blade, but I sanded too much and it broke after I finally got it in.

how do you even remove a blade from an OPS? i have never heard of that before. how do you get by the whole fusion thing?

Some OPS are actually two piece sticks fused together with super strong glue like epoxy. On some older TPS Response+ sticks I removed the blades by cutting the shaft enough to expose the hosel of the blade then heated up the shaft to pull out the blade.

It can be a pain but you end up with the full taper from the original OPS shaft and you just insert a new tapered blade into it.

Most of the CCM/RBK sticks (someone correct me if Im wrong) are made like wood sticks. There is not necesarily a fuse point, thus, you can not heat and pull the blade.

oo, ok i get it now. i knew that if you cut low enough on an OPS blade, a tapered blade could be inserted to retain natural flex. i thought you guys were talking about actually taking out a blade from an OPS, like Snipe and his Responses.

Your answer is going to depend on which version of the stick you have. I believe there is a V and a K version of the stick, I have two of the V that are pro stock and i made them into tapered shafts and i love them but it's probably not the answer you want to hear. Well first of all as people stated, there is no fuse point on this stick, however it's not a true one piece either. What i ended up doing is cutting both sticks off and the rbk logo (the check type thing, there is one on the top and the bottom where i cut it) and i love wood tapered blades so this doesn't matter to me at all, but the V version of the shaft is not uniform inside. Apparently they use a balloon technique that creates uneven edges. What i had to do is sand my wooden blades to fit into the shaft because it wasnt opening up enough and i didnt want to just keep cutting shaft off to see and then it never get bigger. It is very time consuming at first, i kind of have a system now that i know ABOUT how much to sand off with the belt sander but if you were thinking about putting a composite blade in it, hate to tell u but its not gonna happen (that is if its the same version as mine) If your set on composite or don't want to have to do work every time you switch blades your gunna have to flip it.

I have a pro stock V version as well. Its a great stick but the blade lasted less than one game. I got another one so hopefully that one lasts a bit longer. Anyway thanks for the excellent info!
