My review from the Goalie Store BB:

I put my Smith glove in the Equipment Forum last week and now I have two ice times under my belt to comment initially on the glove. The great thing is that I play with 20 immature college guys so as soon as they saw my blingin new white weave glove every shot wanted to find my glove. This was good because I was able to get more practice with the glove than at a normal ice time.

The first reaction to the glove was that it was “blingin†because the white weave really shines in an ice rink. The second was by one of our goalies amazed by how I could close it seeing as it is brand new. That’s because I spent two car rides to NY this weekend breaking it in. Anyways:

The glove is smaller than my beast which I am grateful for because the beast was huge. This glove came in at 2.5/2.6 lbs on a postal scale and even though that’s not ridiculously light, it’s a well balanced mitt. I was most impressed with the fact that the whole back opens for drying which is something I need with how much I play. What I was not impressed with out of the box is the use of cheaper nylon on the glove, its not cordura or ballistic nylon it’s cheaper almost windbreaker nylon. Other than that I was happy with everything out of the box.

On the ice:

On the ice I was worried, I had heard that I would love or hate and I was hoping for love. I happen to be in the middle, the jury is still out. There were things I liked and things I didn’t like.

What I Liked: It’s light. Not quite as light as the Vorteks I’m getting but light. Also the strapping system allowed for a nice snug fit on my hand. The glove seemed to attract pucks and I don’t know if that is because it was a nice new glove at a college practice or whether I was making more glove saves but I did have a couple nice ones. Also once the puck is in the glove it stays in the glove. Also, I play the puck a lot and it felt very nice to play the puck with, I would almost say it gave me better leverage because it’s a stiffer glove than my beast was.

What I didn’t Like: Stinger. I had a stinger right on the palm and that was one thing I was trying to avoid because I got a bunch with the beast. It is mildly understandable because it was a booming slapper from the circles right on the break but nonetheless I was not happy. Pop outs. Although they were mild, if the glove didn’t hit right the puck would fly out into the slot or to my left or right. I didn’t like that.

Overall I rate this glove a 7/10.
