Vaughn a great company!

Recommended Posts

Alright so i had a pair of vaugn visions and they were ripping along the edge of the pad so i took them to my local hockey store to see if they could do anything. So i waited and found out that they couldnt fix it because of the way it ripped it was impossible to sew it back together. So the hockey store sent my pad to Vaughn and i just got a call today from the hockey store that Vaughn couldnt fix my pad either so Vaughn hooked me up with a new pair of pads. Very nice of Vaughn and they stand by their products

im now a loyal customer to Vaughn!

Just thought id let everyone know

Instead of bashing them, perhaps you should state your story.

Well, I'd like to start off by saying I am one my fourth t5500 glove, and I have owned a set of velocity pads and blocker for over 4 years. Apart from wear I have not had a single problem with the quality of any of the 4 gloves, or any of my current equipment. They are a reputable company producing quality retail goods.

My beef (and it's only a frustration right now) is with their willingness to do some complicated custom ordering. I respect that they want to reserve their right to produce quality goods, and sometimes feel that some modifications are just not worth the time and effort. I understand that, but I am frusterated with having to pull teeth to get stuff done.

In mid October 2006 I ordered a pair of Epic goal pants. I had heard that it was a good time to place orders as they weren't swamped and were just working to build inventory. So I placed my order for a set of Epic Goal Pants with several modifications. Mainly the large thing I requested was an interior belt similiar to the Bauer Reactor 6000 pants I was leaving behind. I also asked for the Velocity Thigh Cradle, and the new Buffalo Sabres Panels.

On Valentine's Day 2007 I finally got my pants, they had arrived with the proper graphics as specified (and to be honest they look great), but a lack of or communication break down between my retail store and the factory resulted in none of the other modifications mentioned being attempted. I was a little frusterated as no one mentioned anything to me about what could and couldn't be done. After some waiting I was told that no pros request the interior belt, and they won't do it, even if they had a pair of pants to clone the belt off of. Fair enough, I understand they have a business to run, and have other people to look after.

I agreed to keep the pants, and for the 4 times I have worn them, they have been great.

At the beginning of February 2007 I ordered a chest and arm. After 4 weeks, I still haven't finalized my order as I have been going back and fourth with the retailer who's been going between Vaughn and myself. I had ordered the '06 model Epic C+A with a number of modifications (see below), I gave them a very detailed and illustrated sample, then they responded with a price quote. It would have cost me almost 1000 CDN retail for that C+A as specified.

That was way out of my price range, so I resubmitted my order a week or so ago, with very little modifications hoping to get a more suitable price. That's where I am now. I am not mad, just frustrated that it's being very difficult to get a product that's reasonably satisfying for all parties involved.

C+A Mods - Beefed up foams in multiple spots

- Lexan Sheets in high impact spots

- RBK style tricept guards

- Elastic wrist straps

- modified rib cage extensions

- Old non-nhl sized floaters/ old stock specs.

- Custom Colours

- Up graded belly liner

Before I wrap up, I would like to restate that I am only frusterated with the ordering process and the not equipment it's self. I have used Vaughn equipment for several years, and have had no problems with graphic/colour options. I have also not had a problem with any of the staff at Vaughn, or at my retailer. I have been told many times that the retailer, and Vaughn are working to provide me with something I will be satisfied with, and something they can provide that will uphold there reputation of quality goods. I feel that I am asking a far bit more than the usual customer, and I anticipated a bit of a wait.

I feel that Vaughn seems reluctant to do some intensive customization for the gerenal public. They have their reasons, which they are entitled to. And to be fair, I do feel I am asking for alot more than most retail customers.

Has any one else had any trouble with other companies on custom orders?

Does any one else had any positive stories about custom orders?

-giles

I forgot to mention, that unlike some other goal companies, Vaughn at least allows and offers some to quite a bit of leaway when it comes to customizing goal equipment.

I also have never ordered anything custom of any other brand, so I have nothing to compare their service to.

Sounds like you wanted a completely different C/A! They probably quoted you high because they didn't want to take the time to do it, or because it WOULD take that much labor to do. The tricept guards, larger belly blocks to accomodate the thicker foams, older patterns they have to get out of storage, and rib cage modifications are a lot to ask since everything will have to be custom cut and measured. It takes a LOT of time to do that. Plus, the regular dies won't work for most of the unit. They couldn't just go over and stamp out the parts and beef up some areas (how most mods are)

The only stock parts would be the arms, back piece, and neck guard. Everything else is a hand cut pattern unique to what you want. That price seems about right to me (for Vaughn!)

I was told when I went on the factory tour that chagning the foams wasn't a big deal. Alot of the mods were add ons to an otherwise stock dimensioned chest and arm. As far as I know, they've only changed the elbow/shoulder floater dimensions on the 2007 Epic C+A vs. the 2006 model. I don't think they would have to dig too far to find the patterns. Either way, I wasn't expecting it to be something horribly simple, but at the same time it would be nice for an explanation of what they can and can't do.

I will hopefully hear from them this week and reach some agreement on something. Once again, the biggest frustration is the time it's taking to go back and fourth to resolve anything.

I am really curious to hear anyone elses experiences requesting custom work.

I know I am a very do-it-yourself kind of person, and I have a very clear idea of what I want done. So I am sure that's a big part of my frustration.
