cougarscaptain87 13 Report post Posted February 25, 2007 i just purchased RBK 9k's to replace my XXX's. i got to skate on them on friday night and i noticed that they were SIGNIFIGANTLY (sp?) softer flexing than my XXX's. i have 2 therories... A) since i took the lace look off, the tongune may be flexing too much due to the location of the lace lock, or B) i did not tie the skates tight enough due to slight discomfort becasue of it being a new boot. Has anyone else noticed the skates are softer flexing, or it is purley due to the lack of the lace lock? i replaced the lace lock and just flexed the boot and it felt similar but im going to test them out soon. Thanks in advance. lohnman 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2007 I didn't realize the 9k and the xxx had similar fit. Do they? Could there be too much room in them for you?

CC87while I have no experience with Vapor XXX's, I noticed coming from my RBK 8K's that while both boots were equally stiff, the 9K had a little more give because of the air bladder in place of the ankle pack. Could there be too much room in them for you?that is why i changed, i tried to make vapors fit, and i just couldnt get them streched and tweaked enough, i thought that the XXX's would break in more, but they didnt.thanks for the replies so far
MLSman 22 Report post Posted February 25, 2007 You have two real issues:I have had both skates, and I can say that at the top of the foot the XXX is stiffer than the 9K.The other issue is that the skate has a lot more flex if you do not use the lace locks. I did this on my Vector 10s and noticed that the flex of the boot and the feel was much different. It is not the locks per se, but the ability to provide another place to lace the skate. If you notice on the custom skates without the lace lock, people have an eyelet installed where the lace lock was. That is done for a reason.
TheSnake22 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2007 I've successfully removed 2 sets of lace locks so far without losing the ability to lace through them. all i did was take an exacto knife, box cutter works the same, and shave down the plastic so the lace can pass through without being locked in place. the plastic is pretty soft and the metal ring is still screwed in so it's not going anywhere... i would recommend this to anyone who isn't crazy about their lace locks...
