What do the Cobra holders feel like?

Recommended Posts

Just like the title says, Since I'm going to be getting a pair of G3 Ultra's I'm curious about the Cobra holders. I have a feeling I'm going to swap to LS2's before I even leave the store.

So basically what I'm asking is, Are the Cobra holders worth trying. Seems all I ever hear is negatives.

Best way is for you to give it a try, but personally for me, I hate them and won't use them again. I lost my edges very easy, they're heavier than other holders I've used on Bauers, Missions and T'Blades, and unless you have them profiled, at least for me I felt way on my toes.

Just wear them for a little while with the Cobra holders. I have been wearing grafs for several years and I like the Cobra holders. Also, you may void your warranty by having holes drilled in the boots for new holders. If you do decide to get different holders mounted, make sure the person doing the install knows what they are doing. In my opinion, you are better off finding a good sharpner to profile your blades so you don't have to worry about someone doing a bad mount job on your skates.

I've skated on every holder but the Pitch and I'm currently in 735's with cobras and have never noticed a significant difference from holder to holder. I think its a matter of preference and not performance.

I skated w/ the ccm prolite 3 holder for a couple years and then I just recently got my graf 705s.. I've had them for 2 months now and I just don't like the fwd pitch on them. I'm going to swap out for tuuk custom+ pretty soon, but as everyone else said, you should really try them out, who knows, u may like them. I'm not used to skating w/ fwd pitch but the guy at my LHS said that swapping LS2 wouldn't make much difference because the LS and LS2 have some fwd pitch to them...

LS and LS2 have a neutral pitch...The new holder on the Graf Ultras is lighter than the old Cobra (New one is the 5000, old is the 3000)

I've been skating in G5 Ultras w/ the new Cobra 5000 holders for about 3 months now. As far as the holders are concerned, there is not a noticable difference in weight from my previous LS2s (at least for me), to be honest, I don't know which one is lighter. Now, regarding how long it took me to get used to them, I would say between 2 or 3 sessions. So no it didn't take long to get used to them, but I did, however, get them profiled (which I think is the best thing to do when you get new skates).

So the best advice I could give you, just like many others have, I to give them a try. When I got my Grafs I also wanted to swap the holders for LS2s but a buddy of mine convinced me to give the Cobras a try, and I did, and now I'm glad I did. Make sure you get them profiled as well, it could be worth it.
