Does any company make a gas to electric conversion kit for zambonis? It is a big expense to throw away a perfectly good zamboni to get an electric one, but it should be pretty cheap (the cost of a motor, batteries, and a charger) to change over to electric. I bet with a cheap conversion package available, it would be fairly easy to convince rink owners to do the change. The insurance companies will be happier too--no indoor storage of propane bottles!

Hmmm they do a study right across Canada and miss Toronto rinks completely?

zero, zip, zilch

Makes me wonder why. What did they NOT want confirmed I wonder.

the rink my travel team palyed on one time had such bad carbon monoxide(i think) or something in the air, that they had to evacuate everyone and clear the place out. i think the zambonis did something that made them let out too much carbon monoxide. it was scary because some people got a little sick and we didnt know what was going to happen

I find this disturbing.

The rink I play at uses an electric zamboni, so I am good there.

The rink I practice skating at uses a petroleum based zamboni. The smell has been strong at times and I remember feeling sort of ill during stick and puck.

I may just take the longer drive to my other rink to work on my skating.

oh yeah, one time in our practice rink, the vents werent very open or somthing, and the zamboni's caused lots of stuff in the air.

nearly everyone came off the ice couching and feeling sick. like when you would take a deep breath, it would hurt really bad.

some kids had like asthma attacks from it.

It costs a lot of money to open the vents, exchange a rink full of hot poluted air, and then reheat the fresh cold stuff every hour. It seems like an electric zamboni would pretty much pay for itself in no time at all!

batteries are ridiculously expensive and can need replacing quickly if not properly cared for...

But when you factor in the gas that you use, i'm sure the cost ratio get closer.

We have a 3 sheet indoor arena. 2 Zams and one is sponsored/painted by nestle, so I imagine that a good chunk of the Zam's cost was taken care of.

Edit: Both are electric.
