Removing Chassis

Hey guys, What is the best way to remove an MG chassis from a pair of 10ks? I have seen some people chisel out the rivets etc, but consider this method to be abit over the top/brutal for a pair of much loved skates.

do you care about scratching or ruining the chassis? My old chassis on my skates were so old and worth nothing that I took a grinder to the rivets and it came off in minutes.

I am sure you could use a dremel and do it carefully but I didn't care about my chassis so it was pretty easy.

I havent tested this yet.. but I was told to use a dremel to cut off the exposed rivets. Then drill the others out.

The best way is to use a punch and a hammer to push them out from the inside. You can even get to the front two usually. Mounting machines have a nipple for pushing them out the same way.

For the copper rivets a small chisel is best. You want to bend the copper washer up and then twist it off and cut the copper rivet with heavy wire cutters.

It's sort of like doing a break job. If you have the tools it's only a pain in the butt. Without them, it gets ugly quick.

The rivets in the Tour boots I just mounted couldn't be punched out and my Dremel was wheezing from trying to cut the things. I ended up using my Makita with a Major cut off wheel. It heats up the rivets which melt into the insole or outsole or both.

Yours will come out with a punch. If you don't have a punch, a long Thin phillips screwdriver will do it.

Ditto on the Sprungster reply I just took some pitch ice runners off of my Mission S400's I punched them out from inside the boot with a hammer and punch. For the 2 copper ones in the rear, I used a small drill bit and drilled them out from the bottom of the boot inwards was quite EZ
