spacer problem

Recommended Posts

I got new bearings and standard spacers for my wheel, and I put on the bearings just fine. The problem is I can't put the wheel on my rollerblades because that black tube thing that holds the screw from the other side doesn't fit inside the spacer. I even got a tube stuck inside a spacer from trying to ram it in.

Any suggestions?

It appears you have the wrong type of spacers. What kind of skates do you have? I recently tried to put some old Mission spacers with the Nike HiHo axle system; however, I was surprised to see it fit. Even though the spacers looked the same, the width of the opening in the spacers is not the same. Can you still use your old spacers?

I have Bauer roller blades. I put my old spacers on my indoor wheels and wanted an outdoor wheel set as well so I bought another bearing and spacers set. I guess I have to get the custom made Bauer ones?

nope. they make floating spacers for standard bearings as well. make sure you get the ones specifically for standard bearings or they will be too wide. your best bet is to bring the skates (or a wheel+bearings and axle) with you to a LHS and test fit the spacers before you buy them.

spray the sh!t outta it with WD-40 or other spray lube to loosen it up a bit.

try using a vise grip to hold the spacer and have a friend try to bang the axle out from the open end of the spacer with a small screwdriver or something.

you may even be able to purchase a new axle at your LHS as a worst case scenario.
