Going from JR to SR skates

Recommended Posts

This question is for all the expereinced skate fitters out there. I have none in my local area. My son is ready for his next set of skates. His present skates are JR 0ne90s. Are the Sr One90s going to be stiffer than the Jr version. From your experience do kids struggle when they make the jump from junior to senior skates? I know the price doubles, what else changes?

Yes, they are going to be a lot stiffer and would require more strenght and weight to be able to get the required forward flex. That would be the main differense IMO, although I'm not an expert...

I'm pretty sure there is (but don't quote me on it). My wife uses Jr sized skates and she doesn't notice a difference. But then again, she's fairly new.

my son went from a jr RBK 5k skate to a sr Vector 10 skate without any problems. I think the biggest factor is the person's overall skating ability, weight and strength.

When they're foot is big enough to go into the senoir sizes, it usually means they're ready for SR skates. It'll feel different than his other one90s, but he'll get used to it quickly.

I find for most kids that they have the length but not the foot "volume" to fill out a Senior skate so keep an eye on that, a C or D fitting to account for width not only length
