How do you measure lie?

Recommended Posts

If you take 2 sticks, both cut to the same length, and place the butt ends on the floor and hold the sticks together, shouldn't you be able to see the angle of the blade in relation to the shaft? I have a Recci blade which is supposed to be a 5, and a Lindros blade which is supposed to be a 6, and place them side by side, butt end down, the angle of both blades in relation to the shaft are nearly identical. Then I rested each stick against a table. I put the blade on the floor, with the exact middle of the blade touching the floor, and again the angle of both sticks were the same. What gives? Either the lies of both blades are the same, which contradicts the pattern d.b., or my concept of geometry from high school is way off.

You can measure it a few different ways and while I haven't measured a 2007 Lindros, I have done so every year because of posts like yours and every year I have found it to be higher than a 5 lie. Hold the shafts together and see how the blades compare or hold the toes and heels of the blades together and see how the shafts compare. You will get a different result from your previous test.
