I was at that game. Opening Night vs Calgary in 95. 11 yrs ago...

It was a mouse in the room right? The fans just grabbed onto that and ran with it.

In fact he became a fan favorite in Florida when he killed a rat with his hockey stick in the team dressing room, and every time the Panthers scored a goal the fans would litter the ice with thousands of plastic rats. It was brought to the hockey world's attention during the Panthers' run to the final in 1996.

I didn't realize it was ACTUALLY a rat...I thought it was a mouse, that the fans inflated to a rat when the story got out.

It was a rat. He took his stick and shot it against the wall. Then scored two goals that night. It was mentioned in the article the following day, and he called it a "rat trick."

In 96, when the Avs played in Florida for the Cup, the Panthers fans threw plastic rats on the ice after the goals in game 3.

Afterwards, Patrick Roy told his teammates "No more rats!". The Avs then won game 4 1-0 in 3OT. He wasn't lying!
