OK, forgive my cheesy Air Supply reference...Should've gone w/Bob Marley...

I went to my LHS to get a replacement tapered blade for my broken Christian#3(Drury clone).

I've been to this shop 100's of times before, but I thought they might have some new blades in now. They did, new CCM 8.0 blades, the yellow ones.

They hade Lemeiux, Thornton, Ovechkin and Recchi.

But, no Lecavalier-which is what I really wanted.

But, they've had the older red 8.0 blades for a while, and honestly I never really looked at them.

So, I started looking through them, and picked up a Doan....why the heck didn't I even look at it up before?

I've been looking for a square toed Drury for a while, thinking pro-stock would be my only option.

Granted, the Doan may not be considered a TRUE square toe, but it's real close. It's like a cross between a Lidstrom and Drury.

A little deeper curve than a Drury(ala Lidstrom), a little less open than both, and an almost square toe and long blade. Also, a lie in between 5 and 5.5(5 is my preference, but this is close enough)

The only issue I have is the CCM tapered blades seem to have a kind of long hosel.

Anyway, I bought it. Now I just need to decide if a new tapered shaft is warranted..lol

I may have to look at this curve too. Could you are anybody else possibly compare this curve to the bauer p106, and possibly get pics to?

Thanks

the doan i have (v120 blade) is as round a toe as it gets. rockered with a round toe - if you looked at it from the side its the jofa mid curve. as far as the actual pattern, its a beauty heel curve - kinda mid heel - in a five lie. im surprised with all the heel/low lie lovers around here more people dont talk about it.

the biggest difference is the lie, i hear different things about the 106 - even if its a five ccm's five tends to be a true five like sherwoods...meaning its a bit lower than what people consider a five(eastons forsberg). other than that i would think the only other difference would be that it seems more open than the p106. ive never had a p106 tho, ive only seen them in stores.

On the blade I have I would say it's toe is kind of round, kind of square. It's rounded on top and bottom, but it does seem to have a strait/squarish look to it.

ill take another look, but i usually base the term "round toe" off the top and bottom - so i can see where we are missing each other on that.

i can see what your saying going up and down, it is a bit straighter thru the middle, the top and bottoms are definitely rounded tho - the big rocker makes it seem even more so. maybe its the rocker that makes me think its all rounded, i see what youre saying.

I couldn't wait anymore to use this blade, so I bought a new 7k Sick-Kick shaft to put it in.

I used it once at a drop-in session.

The hosel on the blade is just too long. The SK shaft is 56", I wanted it at 53, so I cut off 3 inches. After inserting the blade, the stick is still too long. I don't want to cut the shaft anymore, so I guess I'll deal.

But, just as an FYI, 8.0 blades(at least the '06 models) have looong hosels..lol

The blade does NOT make the shaft too blade heavy, though, which I was quite pleased about, and it is actually a nicely balanced combo.

As for the pattern, I really like it. The only complaint I have is it's a bit too rockered, a little flatter on the bottom would have been nice.

It's not quite the heel wedge of a Drury or Lidstrom, a bit more toward a mid-heel. It's face is open, but not like a sand or pitching wedge. The lie seems to be a tick above 5, but definatley lower than 5.5.

Being a Lidstrom(pattern) fan, I didn't have much trouble adjusting when stick handling or shooting.

So, after using it 1 time, I'm still as much of a fan as I was when I saw it on the shelf. Just wish the blade's hosel was a it shorter...

I won't really know about durability as I'm basically done playing until Sept., aside from the ocasional drop-in(emphasis on "ocasional).

i know what your saying about the rocker, its significant. i generally like rocker though to me its a plus more than minus. either way, a lot people around here like low lies and heel curves...im surprised more people dont talk about it. i would think it would be a real popular pattern.

This was given to me directly by Doaner on 1/1/07 in Washington, DC.

Anyway, definitely a very versatile blade pattern and I'm surprised it's not more popular.

Actually, I guess because it's pretty hard to find. Not many places stock the Doan pattern for whatever reason.
