Graf skates HELP

Recommended Posts

Hey guys , I bought a pair of 8k's last year , after 2 years away from the game , technologies was way beyond what i knew and made a mistake of trusting the salesclerk (which it was the first time of life doing ...i know i remember why!)

So he suggest 8k's , now it's been a slow season for me 9lots of injuries ) so after 10-15 games my feet are still killing me to a point i can't walk for a least 5-10 mins. So i start reading and getting more informed .

Here's the problem , I have a wide feet but i need a deep boot as well. I spent a good hour trying on skates yesterday at me LHS , and the only that was comfy ( in what they had )was the Graf 709 W .

I do not know much about their equipment , i use to play with CCm for close to 25 years now .

What should i go for ( i will play 4 times a week next season):

Graf 709

Graf g9

Or what else should i look out for !

Thanks

Graf has one of the best fits on the market. Either skate would probably do you but the 709 should be cheaper because it's an older model skate. You might also consider Nikes but you won't get the same quality skate you have with a Graf skate but the Nike's are a comfortable skate for people with wider feet.

It's not only a question of wideness ,but it seems I have a "thick" foot so i need a deep boot !

G9 good skate for the wide foot. I have EEE customs from GRAF.

And what can this rep do for me ? A deal on my skates . :D

The 709 is a wide boot and is the deepest boot that graf offers. It sounds like the 709 would fit your needs. Also, check out the nike flexlite skates. Those are wide and deep. I have worn 709s and I liked them a lot. They were really durable and they didn't lose their stiffness. I have owned several pairs of 7 series grafs and they have all been very durable. I now wear G5s and I prefer the 7 series over the G series. My G5s went soft after one and a half seasons and they are really beat up. The carbon fiber outsole is chipped all around the outside and the covering is peeling in some places. My G5s did perform a little better than the 705s that I have owned in the past. The G series skates were a little bit lighter and felt more responsive with the carbon fiber outsole. If you want all out performance and are less concerned with durability, get the G series skates. Otherwise just stick with the 7 series. On my next pair of grafs I will probably go back to the 7 series because the performance differance between the 7 and G series isn't worth the higher price and lower durability.

My son wore G9's last year and they were extremly comfortable. He also has a thick "dense" foot and they are very deep skates. His only issue with them was the weight. They were quite heavy and difficult to dry out.I put them near a fan which helped. This year, he switched to the G5 ultra's which he loves.Deep and light. The G9's are tanks-very durable. An all around great skate if weight is not an issue.

Louis, G7s are an entirely different skate. the "7 series" #28 was referring to was the 709 (and 703,705,707, etc.)

Take a look at the new G70 Ultras if you get the chance. Graf's G Ultra series is an update/upgrade over the regular G series skates (G3, G5, G9) and the G70 Ultras have been said to be the replacement for the G9s. The differences between 7 series skates and G series skates lies in the materials used to make the skates. 7 series is good old fashioned skate tech- leather uppers, traditional outsole, etc. G series skates are upgraded with lighter, stiffer, more breathable materials (they'll dry out more quickly, a good thing if you're on the ice a lot and don't have a skate dryer) and composite outsoles. The holder on the new G Ultras is also stiffer than the holder on the 7 series.

Both the 7 series and G/G Ultra series are top level skates, and will give very good performance. It all comes down to personal preference in the end.

Louis,

had 707s for the past 4 years and I've got a wide foot myself. love them, most comfortable skate I've ever had. for you, sounds like a 727 Cyberflex wouldn't be bad, either. definitely a wide-fitting skate as well. Other than that, the 709 is definitely your best bet.

take it from a guy who worked in a hockey store and dealt with the skates on a daily basis, the 709 or 727 is your bread and butter right there.

the 707/727 skates (and the G7 Ultra) are also VERY unique in that they are made for people with exceptionally deep knee bend as well as people with VERY strong ankles. While the concept of the 707/727/G7Ultra makes for a very good performing skate, the skate certainly is not for everyone. Even Graf touts this skate as being for "very experienced skaters" only. The 707/727/G7U skates rely on support low in the boot and a very flexible upper that is actually detached from the lower part of the boot. If the skater does not have the expertise necessary to use these skates (I'm not saying that Louis does not have said expertise, I am simply pointing out the nature of the skate) they will, in fact, hinder your skating. (The concept is similar to that of Mission's Supplefit concept, now found in their AG line of skates.)

That said, the 709/G9/G9U is still both a wider and deeper fitting boot than the 707/727/G7U, and will accommodate his foot type better than the 7 can. If Louis was fitted in a 709W, them are some wide puppies.

I think that G70 is the euro version of G5 Ultra not available n Canada/US (correct me experts if I am wrong)Never heard of G-7, but you should be good in G9 or G5 Ultra is you don't mind the low cut factor.

G70 Ultras are a brand new skate, and are just starting to come to market in the states now. Hockeymonkey just recently listed them. They're built the same way in terms of materials as the G5 Ultras, but fit deeper and wider, like 709/G9.

G7s aren't out just yet, but will be made similar to the G5 Ultras, but fit and perform like the 707/727.

Unfortunately they do not have my size , one of my lhs said they will getting the new stock in June ! Is there chances they will have some ? and will they make a white version like the European one ?

if the white one is available in the states, it will only be available via custom order. Ask your LHS if they'll be stocking them. If not, they may be able to order you a pair in your size.

There's nothing wrong with sticking with the 709/G9, they're still exceptional skates, and available right now. the G70 Ultras are just the newer version of the G9. That said, you'd probably want to try them on before you spend that kind of dough.
